We walk back to the cabin with my mother, my brothers finding and joining us along the way. They talk to Ubbe about various things, fishing, battle, politics, as I question my mother about her whereabouts. We finally get back to the cabin, my brothers thanking Ubbe for stopping my mother. I let them walk ahead into the cabin, asking Ubbe to wait outside for me. Once my mother is settled my brothers urge me to walk him home, assuring me that they won't leave mother alone. I only nod. Going back to Kattegat and clearing my head will be good. I take Ubbe's cloak from around my mothers shoulders as she tucks herself in bed. With a sad sigh, I hug my brothers and walk back outside. I walk to Ubbe with my hand out, giving him his cloak back. He smiles as he takes it from me and puts it around his shoulders.

"Are you coming back to Kattegat with me?" He asks, turning his body to face mine completely. I shift on my feet and look at the ground, pulling my cloak tighter around me.

"Yes, I am. I have some things I need to get done anyways." I say simply, hoping he gets the hint to not talk about my mother. He nods his and head smiles, and we begin to walk.

We walk for an hour or so, talking and laughing about anything and everything. We reminisce about the times we shared together as children, getting in trouble, and fighting. His laugh is so contagious, every word of his stories leaving me hanging on for more. I find myself almost completely forgetting about my mother as we near the docks. We settle down from another fit of laughter and stop, catching our breath. I let out a heavy sigh as Ubbe surveyed the street in front of him. At the same time we both spot Hvitserk sitting with a group of men talking, completely unaware of us. I feel my cheeks blush as Ubbe looks back at me.

"So what is it with you and Hvitserk, huh? You two disappeared last night and came home together this morning." He nudges me gently and smiles, raising an eyebrow. I roll my eyes and smile back before gently biting my bottom lip. He steps closer and our eyes meet.

"We went up to the cliffs to get away from your incessant brothers" I say sarcastically, earning me an adorable laugh "and we just drank and talked. Caught up on everything. It's been a while since we had been able to sit down with one another." I flash another small smile as I look back at Hvitserk who is laughing and drinking from a horn. Ubbe glances at him too before taking another step closer.

"And what about that kiss this morning, hmm? You have always been his closest friend, but never that close." He says playfully, our faces closer than they ever have been. I'm struck silent for a moment as I stare into his beautiful blue eyes. I've never seen them this close before. For a single moment I catch myself with butterflies in my stomach. I clear my throat and blush as I catch myself staring. Ubbe doesn't budge, only waiting for my answer.

"Ask your brother" I say, smiling widely. Ubbe rolls his eyes dramatically and sighs, leaning back. He pulls his head back up and looks back into my eyes for a moment.

"Maybe I will." He says before stepping back a bit again. "There's a feast tonight. You should come. I know Hvitserk wants you to" He says, pausing, "and if he doesn't, then you can be my guest." He says with a wink. I playfully smack his should and roll my eyes.
