Chapter 10

There was a bright flash, and suddenly you weren't in a dark room. Taking in your surroundings, you realised you were back where you had been before disappearing into the so called 'Null Space.' Eggman's tower shone brightly in the sunlight, the white building almost blinding you.

Once your eyes were adjusted you smiled. You had made it back! Sonic smiled as well and squeezed your hand,

"Thanks (Y/N), that was a great idea."

You nodded and grabbed your wispon, looking around once again.

Eggman, two of his robots and Infinite were standing not too far away, overlooking the Eggman Fleet. The red robot was the first to notice the you both and began frantically tapping on Eggman's shoulder.

"Excuse me? Boss." It said in a robotic voice.

The mad doctor turned around, knocking the robot away, once his gaze connected with yours, "What!? It can't be! It's impossible to get out of the Phantom Ruby's null space!"

Infinite glanced at Sonic with an annoyed grunt, sending a glare your way. You growled slightly, standing in a fighting stance. The blue hedgehog let out a chuckle, rubbing his nose.

"Maybe by myself, but I had a little help from my friend. Something you wouldn't understand, since you don't have any friends!"

Your cheeks heated a little as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders. The doctor looked mad, his face turning a darker pigment as Sonic mockingly waved him off.

"This changes nothing! Dr. Eggman will still have the last laugh!" The villain yelled, before flying away in his too small flying machine. The dark jackal gave you two one last glance, before following him, and the two robots struggled to keep up.

"Maybe he'd have more friends if he didn't talk about himself in the third person." Sonic chuckled more. You smiled and gave him the thumbs up just as Tails ran over.

"Sonic! You made it back!" The yellow kitsune hugged his older brother, and you took a step back. Sonic smiled and ruffled the fur on his head.

"You bet I did! What did we miss while we were gone?"

"Not much, it had only been a few seconds. Eggman was heading off to finish his plan!" Tails gave a worried look, "He didn't say anything, he really is being cautious this time. We need a plan and we need to think about it quickly!"

"Thankfully speed is my middle name." Sonic said, before glancing at you, "Hey (Y/N), you've come up with a good idea before, have you got anything this time?"

You frowned slightly, rubbing your chin. That's when you felt a throb in the back pocket of your pants. The Phantom Ruby! Pulling it from your pocket you held it up. It glowed in your hand, the air around it wavering with power.

"The prototype! Maybe we could use it?" Tails tilted his head, "But how..."

"Didn't you say Eggman had all of those destroyed?" Sonic raised a brow, before grabbing the gem from your hand, "There was a reason for that right?"

"Yeah, to make sure no one else could harness it's power and..." The fox stopped, blinking, "(Y/N)! You need to use the prototype to stop whatever Eggman is planning!"

You tilted your head, "Wha..?"

"The power from this will be enough to interrupt the other ruby, like when you have bad connection due to a building. This gem is the bad connection, you have to find a way to make it interfere with whatever it is Eggman will do!"

"Tails, remember not all of us are as smart as you." Sonic said, handing the gem back to you.

"But I did my best to explain it in a simple way.."
