Sonic X Reader: Behind the Scenes (A Sonic Forces Fanfiction)

Chapter 8

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to..." Sonic was walking beside you as you got everything ready, "Really, I saw how you were flinching when Amy was cleaning your wounds. I don't think this is the best idea..."

You sighed and shook your head, turning to him. He blinked, going silent.

"I... Can do this..." You mumbled, offering a smile.

"Are you sure..? I saw your face when they were talking. You went pale. Is this really a good idea?"

You frowned slightly, he had seen your worried expression when the Resistance had decided to make you Eggman's distraction. But why was he worried? As far as you knew, this could end the war, and you don't want to wuss out now. You've come so far.

But still, you couldn't help but feel warm inside knowing he was worried. Yet you wondered, was there a reason? Or does he worry about everyone?

"Literally anyone else could be a distraction, why does it have to be you?" He snapped you from your thoughts.

You could only manage a shrug as you grabbed your burst, making sure it had been topped up. Next, you grabbed a grappling hook, it might be useful.

"I just don't understand why they are making you do everything. Knuckles would have been perfectly fine distracting him. Or even Silver. It doesn't have to always be-"

You turned and covered his mouth, smiling a little. He sighed and finally stopped talking, arms crossed. You gave him the thumbs up, trying to tell him you'll be fine, before turning and walking out of the room.

Why did he care so much? It seems really unlike him, to not want someone to fight in this war. You frowned slightly at the thought. You were here because you wanted to prove yourself, you wanted the fighting to stop, yet the one person you seem to get along perfectly with doesn't want you doing that.

You huffed to yourself, before running out of the base. No one is going to stop you from ending this war...

~A few hours later~

Explosions went off, you were dodging missiles from robots, running around Eggman's base and keeping him distracted. To say it was working made you very pleased.

"I'm almost at the Chemical Plant. How's the rookie doing with the distraction?" Sonic asked over the ear piece, finally over his little tantrum. You thanked him silently for not using your name.

"So far so good. We might have to stop using the nickname "rookie" if the kid keeps this up." Knuckles chuckled, and you only gave a nervous laugh, destroying another robot.

Tails cut in, "Next, we've got to get to the computers at the Chemical Plant and shut down the Death Egg's weapons system."

"Perfect. I've been waiting for my turn to bust some heads!" Sonic chuckled excitedly, and you had to hold back a smile.

-Focus on the mission...- The thought ran through your head, -Don't even think about him right now-

"The Death Egg's weapon systems are down! Now is your chance! Move!" Rouge yelled in your ear. That was your cue to get out of there, otherwise you'd be blown to bits.

"Hurry! Just destroy the Death Egg and cut off the power supply!" Tails sounded almost frantic, like this was the only change they'd have at destroying the Death Egg. You had to dodge missiles and bullets as you ran, doing your best not to get hit. Vector spoke next.

"You're making it sound like a walk in the park. This is a Death Egg!"

"Don't sweat it. The other Sonic has this under control." Tails said.

Finally, you were clear, standing a safe distance, you watched as the giant Egg blew to pieces. The bright orange and red colours of explosion looked like strange flowers against the sky, the black smoke blending with the ruined city.

You smiled, hearing the others cheer in your ear. It was really loud.

"They did it! The Phantom Ruby's power should be down to almost nothing!" Amy yelled. Her voice sounded a little muffled, you assumed she was hugging someone. Probably Sonic. You didn't like that thought.

-Of course it's not Sonic. He isn't at HQ remember?- You rubbed your head with a light chuckle. Oh Gods, why did it matter anyway?

"Mission accomplished. The Phantom Ruby's signal has gotten much weaker." Rouge broke in, causing you to listen to everyone's rambling again.

"This should effectively put a stop to the doctor's greatest weapon." Shadow stated, sounding at least slightly pleased.

Vector cut them all off, "The Sonics have made an opening for us. We can't just let that go to waste."

Silver agreed, "This is the moment we've been waiting for. Time to settle the score!"

"Now that the Phantom Ruby is out of the way, we can finally smash Eggman into an omlette!" Knuckles gave a chuckle. The others sounded excited, some also laughing at his statement.

"Hey, don't count your chickens before you smash your eggs!" Rouge yelled, causing everyone to finally quiet down.

Sonic finally spoke up, and you listened intently, "Rouge is right. The fact that Eggman and Infinite are still around means we can't let our guard down."

"I just want everyone to get home safely, okay?" Amy sighed, and the others gave a mumbled okay.

It was silent for a while, no one really knew what to say, or do for that matter. Until Knuckles spoke up, "All right, fine. Everyone get your game face on! The target is Eggman at the Central Tower!"
