Why? Good question. From the look of his pixelated face he looked the age he told me. The only reason I haven't blocked the kid is because I've heard his voice and seen semi-something of a face.

I click the power button on my phone and go into the kitchen. I'm starving and can't wait to heat up some ramen for a quick eat. My mother startles me when I see her sitting at the kitchen table.

"Hey," I say and open the cupboard. I choose spicy chicken ramen and open the lid slightly.

"How did it go?"

I sigh, "Oh, I don't know. I'll see when I get my grade."

"You sound troubled," she comments, "Is everything okay?"

I shrug and fill up a teapot with water. The burner of the stovetop clicks a few times and I place the teapot onto it. I'm debating whether I should tell her or not. Oh whatever.

"The guy you have me texting," I say to her and her face brightens up, "I don't think it's going anywhere."

I look away because I don't want her facial expressions to sway my decision. I'm leaning my two hands against the counter and am basically watching water boil instead of looking at her. She's disappointed— like always— but she will have to get over it.

"What? Why?" She sounds truly upset.

Although she can't see me, my facial expressions are answering her. I'm confused as to why she is completely indulged in this guy. She has never been this involved in a man she has suggested to me. Which has me thinking. I know him.

"Mom..." I trail calmly, "Who is he?"

"Jae," she scoffs, "If he wishes to be anonymous, I say let him stay anonymous."

Her answer is all the confirmation I need. I spin around and give her a hard look. Her face matches mine and the stubbornness in the room right now is incredibly noticeable.

"Don't tell me you paired me with a 친구 (friend) from high school..."

Relief seems to flash my mother's face and she shakes her head at me.

"You know what," I can play her game, "I don't care who he is. He lied about his stupid name. So I'm not talking to liars."

My answer is obviously not what my mom wanted me to say. She is up on her feet and going to grab a hold of my hands but I step away from her. I stick out my hand in defense so that she doesn't try to pull a "mom" move and convince me otherwise.

"Jae," she pleads, "Please don't do this. He is a great match for you."

"Mom, it's been two weeks and I can't even tell you his name." I reply.

"Oh, come on. Names are just formalities. Right?" her eyes twinkle at me and she is still trying to get my hands into hers.

"What?" I can't believe what I'm hearing.

We are basically running around the kitchen as I'm dodging her and trying to get away. She's following me like an annoying puppy. As I'm going for my escape to leave the kitchen, I hit into a body and we both fall to the floor. My brother groans beneath me. My elbow hit right into him.
