"What about you?"

"Don't worry about me. I'm going to be just fine. We're in the age of technology, we can still keep in touch. It's okay." You felt like you were pushing him away, but you also felt selfish. So desperately did you want Stuart to be happy, but you wanted you to be happy, too.

You wanted to be happy with him.

"My boyfriend might not be moving back here for a while, so I think I'm going to have to back out of this one." You spoke to the real estate agent, the two of you walking into the bare living room. A fireplace sat to your left, and a wide, open space on your right. This house had you falling in love with it the moment you walked in. Spacious, beautiful, warm. It was everything you had been looking for. Before his departure, you recall speaking with Stuart about moving in together when he got back. However, you had yet to tell him you had actually found a living space for the two of you. You wanted to surprise him upon his return, but, since you had no idea when that would be, you had to let the house go. Maybe another happy couple could take it, treating it better than you and Stuart ever could. "I just wanted to take one last look around."

"You know I can't give you your deposit back."

"Yeah, I know."

"And there's a three-hundred dollar—"

"Alright, Martha." You grinned nervously in attempts to hide your indignation. Martha simply nodded before exiting the room and presumably going outside. You rolled your eyes lightly before letting them wander around the room. Smooth, wooden floors. Walls white enough to resemble an angel's wings. Cobblestone fireplace. A granite-top island that separated the living room from the kitchen. You loved it with all of your heart, and you truly believed that you were meant to live there. But not everything goes according to plan.

"Nice place." You froze in your spot, tears fighting to fall from your eyes as you heard that voice. His voice. There was something about hearing it in person as opposed to through your computer's speakers or your earbuds that made you whole again. Your heartbeat accelerated as you spun around to come face to face with those lively brown eyes and shy grin once more. He took a few steps closer to you from the doorway he had been standing in.

"Surprise." You said weakly, embracing him tightly. He lifted you off the ground as he held you close to him, your hearts beating together as one. One of his hands ran itself through your hair as you closed your eyes in content. This was the only place that you were meant to be, in his arms. "How did you know?"

"Neha's not exactly the best at keeping secrets." His laugh made you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and you wanted to hear it again.

"Of course." You chuckled. Confusion struck you as he pulled away completely, making you feel cold yet again without his warmth. What happened next caused a soft gasp to exude from your lips.

"What are you doing?" You covered your mouth, gazing at Stuart in shock as he dropped down to one knee. He fished through his pocket, pulling out a diamond ring that sparkled under the sunlight creeping in through the windows.

"Thinking about my future." He looked at you fondly, making you melt under his gaze. "I am madly, irrevocably, deeply in love with you. I turned down the job, because I missed home. I wanted to come back home. To you. You are my home, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. With that being said, Y/N Y/L/N, will you—"

"Wait!" You interrupted. Stuart closed his mouth and looked at you with raised eyebrows, startled by your sudden outburst. "Sorry, I just need a minute."

It had only been silent for a short time before he tried again. "Y/N Y/L/N—"

"No, no, no, no, no. Hold on. I just need another second, please. I want to remember this. I want to remember every last second of this." You spoke, your voice hoarse from the tears trying to escape.

"Okay." He said softly, grinning.

Looking around the room again, you analyzed each detail that visited your line of sight and memorized it. Your mind painted a mental image of this very moment, locking it up tight and planning to keep it with you for as long as you shall live. You needed to savor this moment. Stuart made you feel ways that no one else possibly could, and you felt incredibly fortunate to have had his company for as long as you have. You only hoped that he will continue to love you endlessly and keep being the same amazing guy that he is now.

"Are you good?" He asked, to which you laughed.

"Yeah," You breathed. "Yeah, I'm good."

"Y/N Y/L/N, will you—"

"Yes!" Cutting off his wordflow, you both laughed. He pushed himself off the ground and placed the ring on your finger before pressing his lips to yours. He smiled into the kiss, as did you. You ran your fingers through his hair, tugging lightly as he groaned softly, hands roaming the expanse of your back.

"—Marry me?" He continued, breaking the kiss.

"Oh, yeah." You giggled, your lips joining once more.

You couldn't wait to begin the next stage of your life as a Twombly.
