The sun hung in the sky like a sunny side-up egg. It's blinding rays made the vast blue ocean shimmer especially bright today. Even just sitting on the beach and protected by an umbrella, sunglasses were still necessary. A permanent smile graced your lips as your eyes fanned over your friends splashing away in the water.

The sun had been especially harsh to the world today; you had complained to your boyfriend, Dylan, about it earlier. He had immediately proposed that the two of you get a group together to go to the beach as a means of cooling off your smoldering bodies. Just hours ago you had thought it was the best idea you had ever heard. Now, you were beginning to regret it.

Each droplet of sweat that slid down your face further strengthened the urge to get in the cool water with your friends. Only one thing was stopping you; how amazing your friends looked in their swimsuits. It's like they were born to wear them. You, on the other hand, had never believed you looked as good in one. Your friends were just so thin and they had such great figures. You didn't look half as good as they did.

Your swimsuit-clad self still remained hidden under your flouncy sundress. A book rested on your lap, even though you were hardly paying any attention to it. Sometimes you wished that you could decide how you could look instead of getting features that you didn't even like.

"Hey, babe." Dylan came up, plopping on the vacant towel beside you.

"Hey." You smiled at him.

"You sure you don't want to go in?" He asked, propping himself up on his elbows to look at you. He poked my side. "It's really nice."

"It's fine. Don't worry about it." You kept the same smile on your face, although it had faded a little. You averted your attention back to the book before you. "You go and have fun. I'm okay here."

"Really?" Dylan questioned in disbelief.

"Yep." You nodded.

"Ah, because I think I remember someone complaining about wanting to go swimming today. You're the reason why any of us are even here, you nerd." He laughed, bumping his shoulder into you.

"I just ate. Don't wanna get cramps." You laughed nervously, convinced that he could see straight through your lie, like he normally can.

"You speak nothing but lies."

"I'm serious!"

"Another lie."

"Dylan."

"Y/N."

"I just don't want to, okay? Is that a crime?"

"No, but lying to your boyfriend is." He grinned, proud that he had won this argument. It slowly vanished, however, when he sat up. Scooting closer, he gently pulled the book from your grasp. You avoided his gaze. His voice was soft. "What is it? I'm pretty sure you can trust me, babe."

"I told you not to worry about it." You argued, twiddling with your thumbs.

"And I told you to stop lying to me." He countered, carefully turning your head towards his. The second your eyes met, tears threatened to spill from yours.

"Why can't I look like them?" A tear slipped down your face. Dylan quickly caught it with his thumb.

"Look like who?" He stroked your cheek.

"Them." You bobbed your head off in the direction where your other friends still remained. "Shelley, Arden, Crystal, Holland. They're all so perfect. Then, there's me, who can't even make a trash bag look good."

"Y/N, hey, over here." He said quietly, urging me to look at him again. Reluctantly, you did. "Y/N, babe, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You're gorgeous!"

"Not gorgeous enough. It's just a matter of time until you leave me for someone better."

"Hey," There was a more demanding tone to his voice. "You are gorgeous. You're perfect. You're amazing. You're—you're the love of my life, baby. Everything about you is breathtaking; your hair, your eyes, your cute little nose." He gave your nose a small squeeze, which caused you to let out a small laugh. "You're smart, driven, talented, and beautiful. You're the perfect package, Y/N."

"Whatever." You let out another laugh, switching your gaze to the colorful towel underneath you. Once again, Dylan lifted up your chin to meet his eyes that were filled with love and sincerity.

"Don't whatever me." He laughed, pushing a tuft of hair behind your ear. The gesture alone caused you to blush. "Don't let the way other people look make you feel bad about yourself. Yeah, you may not be an exact replica of our friends, but so what? Does it matter? No, it shouldn't. You're different. That's what makes you you. And that just so happens to be the you that I want to spend the rest of my life with."

Another tear escaped, but this one was out of happiness. You had always wondered how you got so lucky to meet a guy like Dylan. He always knew how to make you feel better and he loved you for yourself. Dylan didn't want you to change like you did a lot. If he appreciates you, then why shouldn't you appreciate you?

"You really mean all that?" You were grinning wildly now, causing a smile to appear on Dylan's face, too.

"100 percent." He winked, caressing your face before abruptly standing up, offering his hand. You happily grabbed it and allowed him to pull you up. Dylan leaned in close to your ear. "Why don't you take that dress off and show everyone that killer bod of yours?"

"You're such a dork." You laughed, nudging him backwards.

"I know." He grinned.

With a sigh, you pulled off the dress to reveal your swimsuit. You let it fall to the ground as you crossed your arms over your chest. Dylan took a hold of your arms, moving them down to your sides. His eyes raked over your body lovingly before going back up to your eyes. "See? Beautiful."

Putting his hands on your hips, he pulled you close to him to place a soft kiss on your lips. You smiled into it, placing your hands on his bare chest. When he pulled away, a content smile was plastered on his lips. He bobbed his head towards your friends in the water. You grinned, nodding.

"Come on." He bent over, allowing you to jump on his back. With a playful roll of your eyes, you hopped onto his back and wrapped your arms around his neck. Giggles left your smiling lips as he ran out to the rest of the gang.

"I love you." You whispered into his ear.

"I love you, too." He grinned back at you.
