I have lost my heart beneath the bandages

Somewhere it rests on a bed of white

Beating ever so softly

I have lost touch with it

Its moans are muffled

It sinks deeper in its wrapping

Becoming an unreachable place

I cannot blame it

Not with the beating it's received

I want to hide away

Just rest away from the world

But I cannot retreat

Just as my heart cannot stay

We cannot stop the calling

We must each go our separate ways

So as my heart falls asleep

I will open my eyes wider

Until the surgery is complete

Then I will soldier on

Through the days of this world

That place in my chest that has been numbed

Will slowly infect the rest of me

Cold has come to make a home

In the vacated hollows between my bones

Finally I will lose myself beneath the bandages

I will become a figure clothed in white

I will not remember myself

My sighs will be silenced

I will be my past

An irretrievable time

Can I blame myself

I have taken such a beating

Though no one saw me bleeding

I will become the bandage

It has become all I know

Though it cannot keep out the cold

Perhaps it will keep it in
