Have you ever been terrified

Of being misunderstood

You try something different

You go out on a limb

You know what you mean

But the world looks back

Without understanding

Have you ever made a point

And they got it all wrong

Your speech becomes another's

And they miss everything you said

It is the risk we all take

When we open our mouths

Or pick up our pens

The crowds of people waiting

To pounce on a position

And make it their own

Without even knowing

It is just opposite of their cause

They read too deeply

They read what wasn't there

Interpretation is a hazard

For all concerned

Be careful what you put

Between the lines

Be more careful

What you pick up

In words you thought you understood
