If there's a prize for rotten judgment
I guess I've already won that
No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history, been there, done that
(Who d'you think you're kidding
He's the earth and heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden
Honey we can see right through you (Oh no)
Girl, you can't conceal it
We know how you're feeling
Who you thinking of?)
No chance, no way, I won't say it, no, no
You swoon, you sigh, why deny it, oh, oh
It's too cliché, I won't say I'm in love
I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming "get a grip, girl"
"Unless you're dying to cry your heart out"
(Girl, you can't deny it
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby we're not buying
Hon we saw you hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When you gonna own up that you got, got, got it bad?)
No chance, no way, I won't say it, no no
Give up, give in, check the grin, you're in love
This scene won't play, I won't say I'm in love
We'll do it until you admit you're in love
You're way off base, I won't say it
Get off my case, I won't say it
Girl don't be proud, it's okay you're in love
At least out loud I won't say I'm in love
When I finished, I took a short bow and rushed off the stage. Brushing past Chris, I left as quickly as I could.
I spent the weekend hanging out with Hannah and Beth, not mentioning what I'd seen and not wanting to talk about it. They both were convinced, though, that I was going to get the part of Megara in the musical.
The following Monday, Beth dragged me to the music hall, where the musical parts were posted on the choir room door. I looked at the list:
HERCULES: CHRIS HARTLEY
MEGARA: (Y/N)
HADES: EMILY DAVIS
PAIN: MICHAEL MONROE
PANIC: MATTHEW TAYLOR
PEGASUS: SAMANTHA GIDDINGS
The other roles were also listed and when I saw my name, I froze. Damn. I got the part. Which meant...
"Looks like you're playing my girl, (Y/n)." Chris stood behind me, pointing at the sheet of paper.
I turned and pushed past him. "Great."
After three weeks of strenuous rehearsal and a week of performances, Hercules was a success. It seemed that Chris played the role of Herc pretty well, and at some points could've convinced me that it was me he loved...but that just made him a good actor. Josh directed well, and despite how hurt I was over Ashley, she did a good job with script as well.
Josh, Hannah and Beth threw the wrap party at their house. Their parents were out of town yet again, so that was the best choice. They had an amazing house, complete with a pool, hot tub and a fantastic view of LA. The cast and crew all attended, and after a while were slightly intoxicated. I saw Chris sitting on a couch with Josh and Ashley. Ash was laughing at something they'd said and Chris glanced up. When we made eye contact, I quickly walked away. I didn't notice both Ash and Josh nudge him and him standing to find me.
I stood on the pool deck, sipping my drink, when I heard the screen open and turned to see Chris stepping out. "Hey, (Y/n)...you did a good job in the show."
I shrugged and tried to avoid eye contact with him. "Yeah, well Josh did a good job directing. You did a good job, also. I'm surprised Ashley wasn't jealous."
He took a step back. "Jealous? Why would Ash be jealous?"
I stepped toward him. "I saw you kiss her the day of auditions. And I know she likes you, Chris."
He laughed a little, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, about that...she actually did tell me she liked me that day, but I told her I was interested in someone else. She told me she understood and I kissed her cheek because we're friends."
"Interested in...someone else?" I lowered my head.
He came up to me and grabbed my chin. I looked up at him and bit my lip.
"Yeah, (Y/n)." He leaned his head forward and kissed me. I reached up and touched his face, tilting into his kiss. His arm snaked around my waist and pulled me closer. After a moment, I pulled away and smirked at him.
"So...who's this someone else, Wonder-Boy?"
He laughed and kissed me again. I caught something in my peripheral vision...my crew all clapping and waving from the other side of the door.
(Another A/N: Ok, I couldn't resist casting Emily as Hades...it suits her. And Mike and Matt as Pain and Panic...XD)
