(A/N: This one is of course "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles. I've recently rediscovered my love for the NATM movies. Also, this one is a bit on the long side but I was having fun writing.)
~~~Your POV~~~
Two weeks. Two effing weeks until Prom, and I was still utterly dateless. It's not like I was completely unfortunate. I may be slightly, uh, fluffier than most of the girls in my class, but I felt like I carried it in all the right places. I didn't dress like a fashion plate, but I looked alright. So what was the problem???
"Your problem, (Y/n), is that you have standards that are far too high," my cousin Nick mumbled through the cafeteria mashed potatoes. "There are plenty of perfectly decent guys in our class who'd be lucky to have you as their prom date."
I gave him the most disgusted look. "Seriously, Nicky? Have you seen the unwashed miscreants that attend this school? And those 'decent' guys you're talking about are the ones who'll pass over me in an instant for a shot at the popular chicks." I played with my potatoes with a spoon and let it fall in the lumps, defeated. "You think I haven't asked anyone yet? It's been excuse after BS line, 'Oh, I already have a date' to 'I have to wash my hair that night.'"
Nick raised an eyebrow, but sighed in defeat. "I don't know what to tell you, (Y/n)...you could always go stag, ya know? Maybe some unfortunate guy will get stood up or he'll realize what a giant moron he was not asking my totally awesome cousin to the Prom."
I laughed a bit, but at least he got me smiling. "Thanks, Nicky...you always know how to cheer me up. I gotta get to Chem, see you after school?"
Nick shook his head. "Nah, I'm going to the museum with my dad tonight, he likes when I keep him company sometimes. But I'll catch you tomorrow, ok?" We picked up our books and lunch trays and made our ways to our prospective classes.
~~~Nick's POV~~~
I ran up the museum steps just before Dad was going to lock the door for the night. I was a bit concerned about (Y/n) and Prom and all...even though I'd gotten a date pretty quick, she was right...the guys at our school were jerks.
"Hey, Nicky, what's going on?" My dad asked as he locked the heavy door behind us. "You alright? How are your prom plans going?"
"Oh, fine Dad. Andrea and I got our stuff pretty much set."
"What about my favorite niece? Does (Y/n) have a date yet?"
"Ya know, Dad, I don't think so...but I'm sure she'll be good." I sat my books on the reception desk and walked back to the Egyptian exhibit to hang out with the closest thing to a teenager in this museum. Ahkmenrah. I opened his casket for him to climb out and sat on the bench while he woke up.
"Nick, how nice to see you tonight! Come to keep your father company?"
"Yup." Ahk and I could talk about pretty much anything. Even though he was about 4,000 years old, he was basically my age.
~~~Ahkmenrah's POV~~~
I liked having Nick around. He was, as they say it, cool. He'd show me all of the interesting things there were in New York, since I couldn't really leave the museum. He was showing me some pictures he'd taken at the Statue of Liberty when one caught my attention. A beautiful young lady, sticking her tongue at the camera and giving Nick those "bunny ear" things behind his head. "Nick, who is that?"
He looked at the photo and laughed. "Oh, yeah, that's my cousin (Y/n). She's like my best friend."
I felt a slight warmth creep into my face. "She's beautiful."
