Pals. The word was like a loaded gun, harmless when left alone, but eventually it would explode: destroying everything in its path.

I lay the word in the palm of my hand, as tender as I would a baby bird, caressing it softly. Pals. Friendship. Camaraderie. There's nothing sinister in that.

My phone buzzed and brought me back to reality.

Hey pal! I'm in small town hell right now and as my designated guide it's your duty to show me the ropes!

My hearted dropped like I was on a rollercoaster. Meet up? Alone?

Beep!

My eyes widened- now? I look down at my Winnie the Pooh pyjamas and then across to the mirror. I'd already scrubbed my make up off, so my naked mole rat face peered back at me. But for once I didn't feel disgusted; I felt excited.

I'll just get ready- in case I decide to go. I probably won't- but just in case. Frantically, I dragged a hair brush through my hair whilst scanning through my wardrobe for something to wear. 

I'm not taking no for an answer! X

My stomach flipped and I held my breath at the sight of the text. What's wrong with me? I don't even know if she's interested... if I'm interested...

My hand started typing before I could think.
