Tragedy of the Times

A day or two he spent

He held me with outstretched arms

and swept me up to the clouds

He gazed at me with those tempting eyes

and filled me up with satisfaction

A week or two he gave

He took me to different places

My feet have never touched before

and treated me like a precious jewel

A month or two came

When I woke up to a tranquil morning

Yet he was not beside me

He needed to sail across the world

for a time I cannot define

I waited for ages and ages

For the warmth of his embrace

The glow of his smile

and the saccharine taste of his lips

But my lover remained out of sight

A year or two occurred

He fulfilled his vow

and appeared right in front of me

But the smile he once wore

Turned into a deep frown

His once mesmerizing eyes

were now stone cold as ice

And the scent of his body

a mirror of dampness

A decade or two has passed

My longing as deep as the ocean

For the man I loved

was nowhere to be seen

Yet his presence shall linger

Just as the persistent wind
