The Rehearsal Part II

The rehearsal had begun. During the rehearsal, no actual fighting would occur because then the opponents would learn of each other's techniques and strategies. The rehearsal was more of a chance for all the participants to learn where they would begin and which station they were at.

(Y/N) stood next Slaine and they listened to the announcer on the PA system. The two stood next to other trainers and their trainees. As they were listening to the speaker, the girl couldn't help but hear a few whispers.

"Princess Lemrina says (Y/N) is a bad person."

"Yeah, but is it bad I don't believe her? (Y/N) seems like a sweet person."

"You know, you're right. The Princess is probably just upset because Slaine seems to like (Y/N) more than her."

"Didn't she have a thing for him or something?"

The two trainees were automatically shushed by their trainers, but (Y/N) felt herself chuckling at the conversation. She would definitely have to remember that there were nice people on Vers, but her animosity for Slaine would always conquer.

I don't think anything will ever take away the pain you brought to me, Slaine. The feeling you brought to me that day is something I will always remember.

Asseylum watched at some point to make sure everything was running smoothly. The rehearsal continued on and (Y/N) followed the given instructions and listened obediently. One could honestly say that the dress rehearsal was unnecessary. The whole procedure consisted of mainly pacing back and forth from machine to machine, station to station. (Y/N) was almost completely disinterested when she noticed Lemrina at the second level of the arena.

Lemrina was in the sound box area, speaking to the Versians running the operations. (Y/N) squinted to see if she figure out what the princess was up to. At this time, Asseylum had left the area to attend to other matters. From the looks of it, Lemrina was giving the operators instructions for tomorrow's actual game.

The Saturnian girl found it oddly suspicious, especially when she and Lemrina managed to make eye contact despite the sea of people she was surrounded by. (Y/N) was by no means worried about what Lemrina was up to, but she did want to know what exactly she did.

By then, the long rehearsal had ended and everyone was sent to their rooms to rest for the night. Slaine and (Y/N) walked alongside each other. The blonde sensed a strange feeling coming from (Y/N). He noticed she was a bit preoccupied with whatever she was thinking about.

"(Y/N). Is something wrong?"

"Hm? Ah, nothing at all," her words were abrupt, but Slaine choose to ignore it. "Look, Slaine, I'm going to head somewhere else before going to bed. I'll see you tomorrow."

"(Y/N) I--."

"Goodnight!"

He again lost the opportunity to ask (Y/N) the question.

The girl walked past a large kataphrakt and Slaine watched her shadow disappear from sight. He had no clue as to what she was putting her nose into, but after some time getting to know her, he knew it was best not to interfere. He knew that (Y/N) was usually doing something she could handle. Then, the memory of her drunken kiss crept into his thoughts and he immediately slapped himself.

"Slaine, she was drunk when that happened. Think nothing of it."

He also remembered when (Y/N) mentioned that she was not interested in neither him nor Inaho. And while that might've been a win on his side, it was also a loss. He knew that they didn't start on the best terms, but he was hoping that by now she would have warmed up to him.

Slaine went straight to his journal. Something he usually did not have the time to write in. Something told him to write the night, though. A feeling in his gut told him it would be best to start writing what he considered major events from then on out.

Dear journal:

Last time I wrote here, I wrote about the man who I now know is named Kasai Hotaru. He said he was looking for the Saturnian Princess, Amaya-Rin, but I know for certain that no one on this planet goes by that name. However, he said this Amaya-Rin person was also the Black Dragon. He also said that I killed her parents... but I refuse to believe that.

Lemrina spoke with me after the day I saved (Y/N) from her bullet. Naturally, I was fuming mad but I had to respect her because she was the princess after all. When she called me in, she asked me about what happened during the day I arrived on Earth with the Tharsis. I told her about the iconic chilling image and she sent me away with a question to ask (Y/N).

I met with Inaho afterwards and he said something I could never forget. "There's just one thing that will stop her from ever falling for you." What was that supposed to mean? I didn't do her wrong--with the exception of our first meeting--but I've been nice ever since.

I just don't understand.

Today, at the end of rehearsals, she seemed a bit off character. I know it's not my business to interfere, but she definitely had something on her mind. Could it have to do with Lemrina? I did see them talking before the rehearsal started.

Lemrina is always trying to push me into believing (Y/N) is the Black Dragon, but I just don't see why I should. I know she's not Saturnian because she wears that ring. The ring helps her to breathe on Vers without her having to wear the suit that other Terrans have to wear. Therefore, I refuse to believe she is a Saturnian.

Lemrina... is just pushy.

Slaine closed his book and looked out to the window of his room. The stars were always visible, it was space after all. The sight helped to calm his nerves a bit. He heaved a sigh, telling himself he should go to bed, but (Y/N) was still on his mind.

He needed to make sure that she was back in her own room so he left his office. When he arrived at his trainee's room, he found Inaho resting on a chair and saw (Y/N) sleeping soundly tucked under the blankets. He was relieved, but upset that Inaho was there, and went back to his office.

Inaho woke up and made sure Slaine was out of sight before leaving the room himself. (Y/N) wasn't really sleeping, it was just a pillow. Slaine had fallen for the old pillow trick. (Y/N) had asked Inaho to cover for her because she knew that Slaine would check up on her.

Inaho wasn't too sure himself where the girl was, but he had an idea. He headed to the arena in attempts of looking for her. He arrived at the arena, but she was not there.

"(Y/N), where are you?"

Though his stoic face wasn't showing it, he was starting to worry. It was just a small thing, for (Y/N) to not be in her usual places, but Inaho couldn't help but feel unsteady. He had already tried calling (Y/N) through the transmissions device many times earlier, but he had no luck there. He knew that because (Y/N) wasn't answering, she intentionally didn't want him finding out where she was or, she was extremely busy.

He continued his search.

(Y/N) was actually seated in an office with Asseylum. The empress had asked her fiance to step out so that she and (Y/N) could have a long overdue conversation.

"What brings you here today, (Y/N)?" Asseylum asked in a sweet tone.

"I saw Lemrina earlier at the rehearsal," (Y/N) said to her. "I don't think she was there to be of any assistance if you know what I mean."

Asseylum slightly frowned. She didn't want to have trouble at the games. Knowing Lemrina, Asseylum knew there was bound to be something.

"Are you afraid she'll reveal your identity, (Y/N)?"
