Chapter 53

Alec's POV

Madelaine holds onto my hand as she nervously chew on her lip. "Jace! Don't just stand there! Tell them!" Izzy says lightly slapping him

He sighs deeply before speaking up. "The clave approved the mission...... But they don't want Madelaine or I to go. They only granted you guys access..." He trails off and Madelaine groans a bit

"Which means we would have to sneak in to Idris which is what we were trying to avoid" she finishes and I squeeze her hand slightly trying to comfort her

"Sneaking in is going to be easy. Getting back is the hard part" Jace says and I stare at him confused.

"What do you mean?" I ask and he runs his hands through his hair pushing it out of his face

"They said we could come without any guards when we arrive since they had an important meeting but..." He trails off again looking at Izzy who steps forward crossing her arms

"But when we leave they will be guarding the portal and want to know what information we got on the supposed demon" She says and I feel Madelaine squeeze my hand tighter

"So how are we going to do this?" Madelaine asks and Jace frowns. "Yeah um Mads before you yell at me hear me out" he says and she nods slowly and cautiously

"This is a very dangerous task. If one of us gets caught we could get deruned and all that jazz soooo I think it's best if you stay here." Jace says and Madelaine lets out a laugh

"You really think I'm going to stay here? I need answers Jace. You can't stop me" she says as she stands up from the bed and walks off with Izzy following

I frown at the cold feeling I suddenly got when she wasn't there. Jace sighs sitting at the edge of my bed

"I just want what's best for her. If she gets hurt..... That's going to be on me" He says and I shake my head getting up

"She's not going to get hurt and if she did then it wouldn't be on you. Now come on we have to make a plan fast. If the clave approved the mission we should get there as soon as possible" I say

He nods as we walk to Madelaine's room. I hear th shower running while Izzy looks through Madelaine's closet

"What are you guys doing here?" She asks and I raise a brow. "We need to come up with a plan. Plus I'm Madelaine's boyfriend. I can be here if I want" I say and she rolls her eyes smiling

"You know she still loves me more right?" Izzy asks teasingly and I laugh. "Keep thinking that Iz. She loves me more" I say and Jace speaks up

"Well I'm her bro- twin so obviously she loves me more than both of you" He says

"Does not!"

"Does too!"

"She loves me more. I'm her lover!" I say and Jace sticks his tounge out as Izzy raises a hand

"I'm her parabatai! I win!" Izzy says and a voice interjects before any of us can speak up

"Never thought I would walk into a conversation of who I love more....but to end this debate I love food more than all of you" Madelaine says as she stands on the doorframe of the bathroom in her towel as water droplets could be seen on her smooth skin

"Alec brother you're drooling" Izzy whispers as she sends me a wink. I blush as I cough awkwardly

"Jace and I will wait outside while you ladies get ready" I say and Jace laughs seeing my face but follows nevertheless

"You know around my sister you're hysterical" Jace laughs and I roll my eyes.

"Laugh all you want but when you're around Clary you get the same way" I say and he stops. "Well that won't happen Alec. Clary is my sister" he says and I frown

"Jace I'm sorry I didn't mean to bring it up" I say placing a hand on his shoulder as he shrugs.

"I have to come to terms with it already. The sooner the better" he says offering me a small sad smile

"Someone is out there for you Jace" I whisper and he frowns. "There was" he said emphasizing the last word

Before I could say anything Madelaine and Izzy step out. "Ready?" Maddie asks as she walks next to me

I wrap my arms around her waist and smile. "Yeah let's go!" I say as we all walk to the entrance and exit of the institute

"Did you call Magnus already? He is the one opening the portal right?" I ask Izzy who nods.

"Yes and yes" she says and Jace walks ahead.

"Come on we need all the time we can get" Jace says and I frown slightly before nodding

"By the way we still haven't made a plan-" I begin before everyone interrupts me

"Forget the plan!" Jace, Madelaine and Izzy say in sync

"Jeez thanks" I say and Maddie laughs. "You're welcome love" she says placing a small kiss on my cheek
