I rolled over, blinking at the sunlight spilling in through Shane’s window. I looked over and saw that Shane was awake, scrolling through his phone.

“Good morning sleeping beauty,” he said.

“Only true love’s kiss can bring me out of my slumber,” I said.

“But that involves me getting up,” Shane said.

“I never said you were my true love,” I said. “Besides, Rio is your true love.”

“Shio is not a thing, Jace,” Shane said.

“Not yet,” I said confidently. “But it will happen. The fangirls demand it.”

“You are the fangirls,” he said, getting up and locking his phone. “Now come on, I’m hungry.”

                “Hungry for Rio,” I mumbled.

He glared at me. “What was that?”

“Nothing,” I said with an innocent smile.

“I hate you,” he grumbled, getting out of his bed.

I got off of the couch and followed him out to the kitchen. Carol glanced at us and sighed, shaking her head.

“At least you’re up before noon,” she said. “For that, you win the grand prize of me making you breakfast.”

“Does that mean Mitch is going to starve to death?” Shane asked.

“I’m not that lucky,” Carol said before turning to make us breakfast.

“I would prefer it if he didn’t die,” I said.

“Why, because you won’t get laid?” Shane asked.

“Shane Daniel,” Carol said in annoyance. “Your mother is standing right here.”

“I see that,” Shane said. “Hello mother who is standing right there.”

                “Ignorance is bliss,” Carol said.

“Oh, you knew,” Shane said dismissively.

“Maybe I’ll ban Jace from the house,” Carol said.

“I would be lonely and cling to you,” Shane said.

“Well that’s why I haven’t banned Jace yet,” she said.

“You wouldn’t ban me. You’d miss me,” I said. “I’m your favorite.”

“You are my favorite,” she said with a sigh. “Just try to behave with my child.”

“Can do,” I said, though I knew I wouldn’t behave with him.

“Your nose is twitching,” she said before turning away to cook eggs for us on the stove.

Shane snickered. “You and your twitching nose.”

                “It sucks!” I whined.
