cool...
Lani's rose gold 6s plus was balanced on her lap as Demi stared at the headline on the TMZ front page, too scared to scroll down and read the rest of the details of the story. The headline was clear: "Trey Songz Accused of Physically Assaulting a Woman." After Christmas, Trey had whisked her away to Bora Bora for a week - making her miss the first week of classes but it was totally worth it - and when she had come back, she had finally gotten to confront Lani about her sour attitude towards Trey. Lani ignored her at first then this morning she dropped her phone on the kitchen counter, leaving it on the TMZ page for Demi to read before walking away.

Now Demi didn't know what to think. But she knew Trey, didn't she? Trey was sweet and kind. He was always putting himself before others. He constantly was making sure that she was taken care of. He was gentle. He didn't raise his voice. He wasn't rude. He certainly wasn't someone who would physically assault a woman, right?

"Hey," Lani greeted as she walked back into the kitchen and sat in the leather barstool right next to Demi.

"This is why you don't want me with him?" Demi questioned as Lani slowly nodded and took her phone back.

"You remember Lauren? The girl who DJ's at Siren?" Demi racked her brain for memory of a Lauren, then nodded.

"The one you call-"

"Yes. That one. Anyway, that's the club where Trey attacked the girl and Lani knew the girl. She said it was a huge mess and a bodyguard literally had to pry Trey off of her," Lani explained as Demi shook her head.

"But people have cameras...someone would've recorded it. She could've sued..." Demi was making excuses because she just couldn't fathom her Trey assaulting a woman. Because if he could assault a woman like that, it meant that he could do the same to her.

"She did. She got a restraining order and had a whole case against him but he got to her family so the case was dropped, the story was buried, and everyone just forgot about it," Lani stated as Demi chewed on her bottom lip.

"What should I do? I can't just...I have to ask him about it, right?" Demi asked as Lani shrugged.

"I guess."

"Kehlani." Demi deadpanned as Lani huffed.

"I'm not his biggest fan but if you really want to know the truth, ask him, I guess. Just please be careful, Demi. I would never forgive myself if something were to happen to you."

After chilling out with blueberry waffles and turkey bacon after their serious conversation, Demi got ready to go over to Trey's house. She wasn't wearing anything too crazy, just Drake's OVO merch that he had given to her for Christmas. It was a long sleeve black shirt that was big enough to be a dress, so Demi slipped on her basic old skool Vans before grabbing her keys and stuff and leaving.

She kept clenching and unclenching the steering wheel as she made the drive to his house. She hadn't even checked if he was at home or not. It didn't matter. She really needed answers. The last thing she wanted was for this whole thing to be true. She just needed the truth but at the same time, could she really handle it? Demi had confessed her love for this man. Would she really be able to stay with him if this whole thing turned out to be true?

Thankfully, Trey was at home. And Demi only knew this because Kane was scratching at the door when she approached it, and soon a shirtless Trey came to answer it. He was only wearing a pair of navy joggers with gray boxers peeking from the waistband.

"I wasn't expecting to see you today, baby," Trey said, bringing her in for a kiss before he closed the door behind her.

"I know, but um...we just need to talk," Demi said as Kane continued to lick at her ankles.
