A new town, a new beginning is what May's father always says. She's been to two different high schools in 3 years, this being her third. Her father worked a ton, being a single parent.
May doesn't have many friends because of the constant moving, having one true friend at her first high school. No one paid enough attention to her for her to make proper friends, she was just a girl no one noticed.
Another reason for May's lack of social interaction was a disorder that plagued her, social anxiety. She couldn't hold a conversation for long without running away, which she absolutely hated with all her heart.
This year she's in a completely new country, having been living in various states in the US since she was born. The flight to Australia was terrible, but she made it in one piece which is all that mattered to her.
Her father began to approach an older house which was quite large for the two of them. She exited his car and began to help to movers. She had always been a generous girl, helping people in need in a heartbeat.
"That'll do M, can you unpack the kitchen stuff." Her dad asks, she merely nodded, walking to the large kitchen.
She took all the plates out of the box and began to place them in a cupboard, the light clink of dishes pleased her ears. Once she was finished unloading the boxes for the kitchen she saw her boxes for her room were next to the stairs. She walked up the stairs and looked and the large selection of rooms, three in total she could choose. She chose the room with the large rose window adorning the back of the wall.
May unpacked her bathroom items, placing everything orderly. She then set up her ikea desk she got before she left, a dark wood hefty desk, which she placed in the corner. After she hung up the various drawings and sketches she saved, hoping to make the room look less dreary and bland.
-two days later-
"Your first day of school is tomorrow Bails, are you excited?" Her dad asks as they ate their meal.
"Not really, it's just going to be another year of being on my own." She sighs, sipping her water.
"Not if you make friends, we're going to be in this place a long while." Her dad states, stacking their empty plates.
"I'll try dad, I'm gonna try to get some sleep." May sighs, as she walked up the stairs she heard her dad call out to her.
"Night M, dream sweet dreams." He yells, that's what he told her every night. Baileys mother used to say it to both of them.
-
"Class we have a new student from America, introduce yourself." The teacher grins, May sighed lightly and her palms became sweaty.
"My name is May Stewart, and I moved from California." She says, walking quickly to her assigned seat.
"Welcome May!" The class said enthusiastically, she ignored the greeting and got out her books, having heard that greeting a million and one times.
The teacher carefully instructed the class, May paid close attention until someone poked her shoulder. The looks over to see a brunette boy is trying to get her attention.
"Hi I'm Calum, would you like to sit with my friends and I at lunch today?" He asks, May was surprised she had never had a person be so confident and up front with her before.
"Yeah I'd love to." She smiles, thinking of her fathers words, making friends would be good for her. The bell suddenly rang, declaring the end of the period and lunch to begin.
"Follow me." Calum smiled, Bailey nods and follows him to the lunchroom where he took a seat at an empty table. There was a comfortable silence between Calum and Bailey until loud voices approached the table. She looked up and saw two boys, one brunette and one with green hair.
"Guys this is my new friend May, she moved here from California." Calum introduces, the boys all seemed happy for May's presence which made her more comfortable.
"Are you really?! Talk!" The green haired boy exclaims excitedly, sitting down and watching May intently.
"Hello." She giggles quietly, the boys all laugh at their naive friend.
"I'm Michael!" The same boy shouts, holding out his hand. May gladly shakes it, his warm palm meeting her cool one.
"I'm Ashton" one of the blondes says, sitting next to Michael.
"Where's Luke?" Calum asks, the boys all look questioningly into the distance. May joined their gaze to see a boy with long blonde hair and pale skin walking towards their table.
"Luke where have you been pal, you missed the introduction of our new American friend." Michael whines, making May chuckle.
"I was out for a smoke, nice to meet you I'm Luke." He grins, sitting next to May.
"May." She returns, taking a sip of apple juice.
"So May, us boys were going to bowl and get food after school, would you like to attend such festivities?" Ashton asks, May nodded as a smile grew on her face.
"I'd love to, sounds like a blast." She agreed, toying with her bracelet.
"I like your top." Luke compliments, she looks down at her Rex Orange County shirt.
"Thank you, same to you." She says, looking around the lunchroom.
"So May, do you have any hobbies?" Ashton asks curiously, his interest peaking in the Californian girl.
"I draw, play piano, and watch Full House reruns. Not Fuller House, that show's bad." She says, making the boys laugh.
"That show is absolutely terrible the original is a million times better!" Calum agreed, they high fived. The groups interaction was cut short by the furious ringing of the bell, meaning it's time for the next class.
"Meet us in the courtyard after school!" Michael yells, walking the other direction. May stuck in her earbuds and began to listen to music. She felt as if someone was near her, she looked over to see Luke.
"Hey Luke, can you help me find this class?" She fibbed, just wanting to be able to talk to him.
"Sure- Hey we have the same drama class!" He smiles, handing May her schedule.
"Follow me." He instructed, grabbing her hand. May felt butterflies all up in her hand and stomach. They made it to the class and Luke brought May to the front.
"You must be May Stewart, you'll sit next to Luke for now." She smiles warmly, May liked her she seemed very sweet.
The two took a seat as the teacher gave her lecture. May began to yawn heavily, due to her jet lag from her flight to Australia. She was lucky the lecture was over and the teacher announced a project.
"Don't forget chapstick and mouthspray on Friday! I'm having all of you act out Act 1 scene 5 where Romeo and Juliet meet. You all need to be comfortable doing those sort of intimate things with strangers if you want to make it to the big screen. Because of the stranger factor I'll be assigning partners, some of you may be lucky because there's an odd number of boys in this class."
"First pair, May Stewart and Luke Hemmings." The teacher read off, Baileys heart began to race, she'd thought the teacher would spare her due to her being new.
