So the King and Queen wanted to talk to you. Again. You rushed to the dining hall. Suprisingly, noone besides the servants were there yet. You noticed one of the servers having a difficult time carrying a mountain of silverware.

"Here, let me help." You grabbed the top half of the stack and started placing them around the table.

The old server thanked you. "Why thank you Miss (y/n). I brought an extra plate for your little boyfriend but it seems that he left early."

You nearly dropped the remaining plates. "I beg your pardon? I don't and never had a boyfriend."

"Oh so that boy with the goggles and blue streak isn't your boyfriend?"

"What!? N-no Of course not. He is just a good friend that's all."

"Your redder than rose face tells me otherwise."

Your mouth hung open. How do you respond to that? You were about to try and stammer a response but before there was even a possibility for that, a voice interupted your dumbstruck silence.

"Hello Mildred," Rapunzel charmed. "Aww (y/n), you helped her with the table setting? That's so sweet. Let me help too." She grabbed the sorted utensils and as she set them around the table, she spoke again. "So what would you two talking about? (y/n) had a pretty funny facial expression."

You turned to Mildred, silently pleading her to keep her silence on the earlier topic, but she didn't get the hint.

"Oh we were just talking about "(y/n)'s" little bo-"

"Phew! I am starving! I thought dinner was ready already." Eugene came marching in and you silently thanked him for interupting. He was followed by the King and Queen.

"Now, now Eugene, don't rush the cooks. They are doing their best to accomodate everyone after the raccoon got into the kitchen."

In an attempt the get away from Mildred before she tries to restart her story, you rushed to the King and Queen. "Queen Ariana, Queen Frederick, I was told you wanted to speak to me again?"

The Queen nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes of course, despite the little bit of amuesment you have caused today, we have some very exciting news we hope you will appreciate. We shall tell you after dinner. I am famished today."

Exciting news? I like exciting news  But you couldn't help but feel anxious about what the King and Queen wanted to tell you. From the waist up, you managed to keep your composure and calmly ate your dinner without interuption. Under the tablecloth however, you couldn't help but to tap your foot in anticipation for what ws about to come.

There was a rather uncomfortable silence looming over the table and it seems that someone wanted to stop it.

"So Eugene", Rapunzel started. "How was training with Cassandra today?" Eugene looked up with cheeks stuffed to the brim. He quickly swallowed and spoke up.

"It was fine. The Little Miss Boss over here is still making me work my butt off without any recognition to my efforts." He gave one his smolders and the whole tabled rolled their eyes, including yourself. Cassandra suddenly broke into the conversation now.

"Well if you don't think you can handle the work, I can just tell the Captain that you aren't fit for the royal g-".

"Nonono, I take it back Cassie."

"Don't call me Cassie!"

Soon the table erupted in bickering and side conversations anf honestly, this was when you were the most comfortable. You finally eased up enough to stop your foot tapping. Eventually, everyone stopped eating completely and the yelling calmed down to mild banter. The King stood up.

"I assume that since everyone is all talking we are done eating? Good. Now, that that's settled, I will like to talk to (y/n) for a bit."

Everyone filed out of the dining hall, even the guards; which was a little weird. Suddenly your anxiety began to ghose behind you again and you resumed your nervous foot tapping. Queen Ariana walked up to you and kneeled at your side.

"(y/n), there is no reason to be nervous. In fact, we hope you take what we are about to tell you in gracious consideration."

The King stood up in an exaggerated and stiff posture. From all the times you have seen him speak, you have come to notice that he only does this when he is speaking about a topic he himself is anxious about.

"(y/n), it has been almost a year since you have saved Rapunzel and started living with us in the castle. In this period of time, you charismatic willingness to help others and your ability to connect with everyone you meet has made you a vital member of the royal staff. However, . . "  The Queen held your hand, "You have grown to be much more than a court member- but as a member of our family. Cassandra, Eugene, my wife, and myself have grown to care about you just as much as we care for our Rapunzel, and it seems that Rapunzel has already learned to consider you as a sister herself. I know you miss your family but . . . we hope that um . . ."

The Queen interupted. "What he is trying to say is that, we want you to become an official member of the family, in your own coronation."

You could hardly process everything that was being said to you. "What do you mean? Are you saying that you are trying to adopt me?"

"Well, informally speaking, yes."

Your heart has never filled up with so much hope before. The thought of finally having another family and being a official member of the royal family filled you with pride. But . . . you still believes that there's something about your family you have been left out from. And you were determined to know what. You already knew your answer.

"Your highness, nothing could fill me with more pride than becoming a member of your family. But . . . I can't ." You held your head down so that you wouldn't need to see the kings reaction.

He voice became discouraged.  "I see, we cannot force you to make a decision in our favor so we will not press you on it.  But, may you tell us, why do you reject this offer? We are merely curious now."

You took a deep breath. "I have spent most of my life wondering about what happened to my parents; about why I was alone. Everyday, I would look at their picture and feel as if, I was meant to figure out what happened to them. I don't know if they are even alive anymore . . . but all I could do was hope . . . just hope. That is what has been keeping me going for all these years. And as much as I would love to be a part of  new family, I need to be sure of myself and my past."

The King looked down and whispered something that was meant only for himself and was as light as a night breeze, but you caught onto it clearly.

"I wonder if all (l/n)s are this determined."

You froze and could barely muster a whisper. "What?"

King Fredrick jumped up, startled at what he judt said. But he tried to brush it off. "What?"

"I never told you my last name, how do you know my last name."

"I uh, figured it out of my own."

"HOW?" Your tone of voice disturbd him.

"Do not talk to me like that. I do not need to tell you what you don't need to know."

"You said you considered me as part of the family. Family aren't supposed to keep secrets from each other. " You started to get your teeth. Anger and sadness were swelling up inside of you. He gave a defeated sigj and spoke is the softest and most painful voice you have ever heard from him.

"When you first came to the castle. I had my suspicions on who your parents were, but I wanted to make sure. Then when you said your parents disappeared  . . . I knew for sure. You are the single child of (m/f/n) and (d/f/n), the greatest scientists I have even known . . . And mu greatest regrets."

*I was planning on making this chapter a lot longer and with more fluff and angst but I haven't uploaded in a while. So I decided on making a cliffhanger because I'm evil. 😈 Tell me how you like it or feel free to leave a response. Next chapter will be uploaded Thursday or Friday.*
