I woke up to find myself lying helplessly in a crisp, blue bed with an inordinately beeping machine beside me. Everything was a blur, I couldn't remember what day it was, month, maybe a year?
I solemnly but swiftly stood up, releasing the frightening tubes connected to my arm, only to realise a dramatic yet wincing pain in my abdomen. I should have noticed the thick, snow-white bandage strapped to my side. It was agonising . I felt my whole body go to jelly before my head launched back as i hit the icy cold floor. I cried out as the mysterious wound on my side crushed into the ground. I pushed every muscle in my body to return to my feet. At many times I thought it was impossible but eventually I managed to scrap up enough energy to stand up on my numb and cold balancing limbs I called feet.
I clenched my stomach as I staggered towards the door or in my case an escape route. The first thing that came to my mind is where's Clara? Where's Finn and Maggie?!! The only motivation that doesn't stop me from falling to the floor in a forever sleep is my beautiful children and my beloved wife . I have to find them. 'But before I can do that I have to find out where I am and what's going on' I think to myself. I push a dirty yet light hospital looking bed away from the door that blocked my entrance. Why was my entrance blocked? How long have I been asleep?
As soon as I manage to open up the entrance the sight that awaited me answered my questions and I realised that I needed to get out of there. As I walked out into the hallway, lights were blinkering and I saw blood..... lots of blood! The scene felt uneasy like a set from a horror film. What made it creepier is that I was pretty sure I was in a hospital. So many questions. Why am I here? What happened to me? My eyes rushed around in panic trying to find an exit ..... I slowly crept down the hall trying my best not to make too much noise, after all I didn't even know what the threat was.... My feet stung as my bare skin hit the freezing hospital floor. Finally! I saw a door . I was relieved and excited and........ 'wait a minute that's not an ordinary door Is it?' I ask myself hoping I'm wrong. I defensively walk up to it trying not to get too close. And there is was..... a message in blood saying "Strayers inside". What was happening? There's a chain attached to the door in loops and I suddenly get a whole lot more freaked out. I ran down the nearest turn of the next hall and didn't look back.
My breathing started to increase and become deeper but i keep on running in every direction wanting to see the light. I instinctively looked at a blue sign hanging from the ceiling which had an arrow saying " Way out" . I scrambled down this deserted , dark and damp hospital and eventually.... Yes! The light was in my line of sight. I leaped , firing my legs towards the front exit pushing open the doors with every ounce of my being. I slammed them against the brick wall of the outside environment, the shell of the hospital, and stepped out into to breezy, crisp air and took a minute to appreciate the oxygen in my lungs with every breath.
I jerked around the outskirts of the building looking around at this new mysterious world i now lived in. I climbed up a grassy steep hill to see the landscape of the hospital grounds. And the sight . That terrible sight. The world I thought was special and dearest to our species had turned into something dark.....
