In a case associated with the "Windigo" legend, a Native American known as Swift Runner apparently murdered and ate his family one evening in 1879.
Before he was hanged for the killings, Swift Runner claimed to have been possessed by the “Windigo,” who forced him to carry out the atrocious acts.
