Clary and I are playing 20 Questions. I thought it'd be a good way for us to learn more about eachother. So far, it's not exactly working. I've asked Clary three questions and she's passed on them all. "Are you serious?" I ask irritated. "Fine....." What else could I even ask? Every question is a pass! Wait, she said three passes and she doesn't have anymore left. Just think of a question! "Who is the last boy you kissed?" I blurt.

"Pass," Clary tries. Does she really think I don't know she's already used her three passes?

"I'm sorry Clary, but you've used your three passes already," I remind her. "So, who is the last boy you kissed? It's not like I'm going to make fun of you for telling me who he is. I promise I won't say anything to him. I just feel like this is something normal friends talk about."

"I'veneverkissed anyonevoluntairlybefore," Clary blurts. What did she say?

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that," I explain. "Please repeat what you said."

Clary looks at her hands as she bites her lip. "I've never kissed anyone voluntairly before," Clary whispers. Oh! Shit Jace! Messing things up seems to be as natural to you as breathing!

"Angel Clary, I'm sorry. I didn't know," I reply. Were both sitting at my desk. My hand makes its way to her hand, and I give it a squeeze.

"I...it's okay. I know it's pathetic. I'm sure you've kissed plenty of people, so it's only natural for you to deduct that I had too," Clary says. Then as she realizes she just said that I've probably "kissed plenty of people" she bites her lip. "I'm sorry Jace. I didn't mean for that to sound so judgemental. Let's just get back to the game, yeah?"

"Sure, it's your turn to ask me a question," I answer.

"Do you really play football because you haven't signed up?" Clary questions.

"Pass," I reply. Who's bright idea was it to play this stupid game! Oh yeah, it was mine! Curse me, Jace, the idiot!

"Okay," Clary replies confused. "Why do you always help your mom with Willow all the time?" Clary asks. Damn! I hate this game, but I can't ask her to stop in the middle of my turn.

"P-a-s-s," I manage.

"Okay, why do you sleep next to Willow in her room?" Clary asks.

"Pass," I say. I hate this stupid game! Ugh! Clary smiles this little smile, and I have a feeling I'm not going to like the nextquestion, that I have to answer.

"Who is the last girl, besides someone related to you, that you kissed?" Clary asks. Damn! She tricked me! She knows I don't have any passes left.

"H...her name....is....Chloe," I manage between gritted teeth. Just thinking about her brings back all of this anger and pain.

"Jace, are you okay?" Clary nervously questions. "You're tensing up again."

"We should get you home," I deflect. I quickly text Alec and ask 'if he can please watch Willow while I drive Clary home.' He replies, 'of course.' We walk to my van in silence. As we back out of the driveway however that silence is cut short.

"Jace, I talked about me. Can't you tell me anything?" Clary asks slightly agitated.

Why is she pushing me? Then, a  large internal voice booms, Maybe she just wants you to be open a little since she's been so open to you! She deserves to know something about you! "Clary, I'm sorry. It's just hard for me. I know how difficult it is to talk about yourself. I know that you're doing an amazing job, and I'm failing miserably. I can try to talk about Chloe, but it's a rough topic," I decide to listen to the voice. (the voice of reason)

"Jace whatever you want to share is fine. I just don't want to feel like the only one giving anything," Clary explains.

"O..okay, Chloe was my last girlfriend. We dated for about 16 months. There are some key details I'm leaving out. Basically, she left one day, and I never saw her again. I don't want to say anything else, yet," I decide.

"Jace, you don't have to say anything else, yet. I'm sorry that she left you. I can't imagine how that must've felt," Clary says compassionately. We're approaching her house. I decide I should walk her in, just to make sure everything's okay.

"Clary, would you mind if I came in for a second to make sure it's safe since your mom's at work?" I ask her.

"If you want to," Clary quietly replies. "Thanks." We go inside. I check the rooms and such to make sure it all looks good.

"Jace, do you think maybe people like us, or me at least, aren't supposed to try and find..... companions?" Clary asks me out of the blue. "Like maybe were just supposed to be alone."

"Clary, I'm sure there's someone out there for both of us. We've just got to find them," I lie. Of course I don't think anyone will want me, but Clary would be a good girlfriend for someone someday when she was comfortable. I leave her house and make my way home. When I arrive, I find everyone about to sit down to dinner.

I find my mom by the stove as always. "Hey mom, thanks for dinner. I really appreciate all that you've done to help adjust our lives, so Willow can live with us," I say to her. She just smiles at me.

"So you and Clary are getting pretty chummy," my mom smiles.

"Yeah, I think it'll be good to have a non-related friend. As you know, it's been a while since I've had one of those," I reply.
