Day 23: Mother and Daughter

It's midnight now inside this glooming alleyway;
   She peered in darkness, found a woman kneeling there,
A woman in a silk kimono, strings of tears
   Upon her pallid face, her portrait of despair.

She peered in darkness, found a woman kneeling there,
   Who now looks up at her, her eyes aglow with malice;
She backed away, feeling a jolt of trepidation
   Beat through her heart of hearts! She looked upon dear Alice,

A woman in a silk kimono, strings of tears
   Forming black tracks of makeup down her ashen face.
She tried to comfort her, saying, "I never meant
   To hurt you, Alice!" Then her tears she did erase

Upon her pallid face; her portrait of despair
   Now disappeared, so this is what Mom had to say:
"Come back to me, dear Alice, for it's getting late:
   It's midnight now inside this glooming alleyway."

(To be continued . . .)

A/N: This is a new poetic form I decided to try. It's called the Lilibonelle, an invented verse form found on the internet at Poetry Styles and a couple of other sites. Don't know who the inventor is, though. Hope you enjoyed!
