Kori,"Good morning."
Averi,"Morning."
Kori,"Since there's a dance coming up I thought we could go together."
Averi,"I don't go to dances."
Kori,"Yes you do. It's a date for me and you."
Averi,"We aren't dating."
Kennidi,"So you are forcing her into this."
Kori,"I thought I was talking to Averi, not you."
Kennidi,"Sorry, it's just intriguing how you forced her."
Neil,"Don't mind Kennidi, she gets into everyone's business. I'll just, pull her away."
Averi,"You just got, rude."
Kori,"In the words of my older sister. This is an A and B conversation so you C you're way out of here before D and E, F you up!"
Averi,"Okay."
Kori,"Yes, she's sassy."
Averi,"And so are you."
Kori,"Yea well. I-"
Mr. Suttel,"Alright kids, time for Chemistry."
...
Kori,"Okay so the tickets are going to go on sell at lunch today and I'm going to get two for us."
Averi,"I'm not going to the dance."
Kori,"Why do you never want to hang out with me. Averi I'm trying so hard to deal with this. I know about the other one."
Averi,"The other one?"
Kori,"I've been reading your text messages."
She shows me my phone with my texts open.
Averi,"How did you get my phone? How did you get into it?!"
Kori,"I don't get it. Am I not good enough for you? What can I do to make you want me again?"
Averi,"Why are you talking like this?"
Kori,"Averi I'm trying! I need you to try to!!"
Averi,"Try what? We aren't dating and you seem to think we are so I don't know what you want me to do!"
Kori,"Oh so now you're acting like these past months have meant nothing to you."
Averi,"I just met you yesterday."
Kori,"Averi, why can't you love me again?!"
Averi,"I never loved you!"
Kori,"I think your name is cute. It's spelled A v e r i, I thought it was A v e r y. But it's unique how it's spelled. So cute."
Averi,"Why did you change the subject after yelling at me?"
Kori,"i couldn't figure out what to say next."
She twiddles with her thumbs.
Averi,"You act very strange."
Kori,"I grew up watching anime and my sister says that I've started to act like them a bit. I try not to but I can't control myself."
Averi,"Huh."
That can't be it, you're just weird.
Kori,"You want a table to ourself again or you want to sit with other people?"
Averi,"I don't care."
Kori,"I got you."
...
Kori,"Boom. One for me and one for you."
Averi,"Can I have mine?"
Kori,"No because you're going to rip it."
Averi,"I can't believe you took a whole table again."
Kori,"Actually no one was sitting here so here we are."
Averi,"Why would they do that?"
Kori,"Maybe they like to watch us talk. Like stalkers. I wonder what it's like to have a stalker."
Averi,"Not good."
Kori,"Yea. We are going dress shopping after school today."
Averi,"I have homework."
Kori,"We have the same classes Averi. So far only one class gave us homework and you're halfway done with it."
Averi,"Don't have time. It's my turn to cook today."
Kori,"Someone else can cook."
Averi,"We take turns."
Kori,"You're lying to me."
Averi,"What?"
Kori,"I just know you are."
Averi,"Exactly how?"
Kori,"I just know, so quit asking questions."
Averi,"Wow, ok. Rude."
Kori,"You're too cute."
...
Averi,"You don't have a car?"
Kori,"You said you have two siblings and one on the way. There's only four bedrooms, how is that going to happen?"
Averi,"My brother graduates this year and has a scholarship to college so he'll be gone. He's also leaving this summer to vacation with his friends. They are going to clean out his room."
Kori,"So you're parents are together?"
Averi,"Yes."
Kori,"Oh. I have one older sister and a younger brother."
Averi,"So your sister has a car?"
Kori,"Yes. Your brother has a car I assume. So why doesn't he pick you up after school? Seniors get out early."
Averi,"He has to go straight to work after school. Then my mom has to pick up my sister after she gets off of work."
Kori,"Oh. How old is your sister?"
Averi,"She's nine."
Kori,"What grade is she in?"
Averi,"Fourth grade."
Kori,"How old is your brother?"
Averi,"He's eighteen."
Kori,"How old are you? When's your birthday?"
Averi,"Fifteen, August 12th."
Kori,"I'm sixteen, mine is June 3rd."
Averi,"Cool."
Kori,"I'm your elder, call me senpai."
Averi,"No."
Kori,"Why not?"
Averi,"Because no."
Kori,"Ugh fine. I guess I'll call my sister."
Averi,"Okay bye."
I head up to my front door and unlock it.
Something then pushes me inside and closes the door.
Averi,"Kori!"
Kori,"Wow your house is nice."
Averi,"Get out!"
Kori,"That's rude to your guest."
Averi,"I didn't invite you here."
"Yo, what was that noise? hi."
Kori,"Hello! Are you Averi's older brother?"
"Yes, who are you?"
Kori,"I'm Kori her girlfriend."
"Woah I didn't know you swung both ways sis."
Averi,"I do not! And she is forcing me into this relationship. She's making me go to a dance! I don't go to dances."
"That is true. So let her down easy okay. She might go crazy."
Kori,"How dare you!"
Averi,"I know. I've been trying this whole time. She's only been at school for two days."
"Two days?"
Averi,"Yes!"
Kori,"Averi."
Averi,"Now she's forced herself into my home."
"Crazy.
I like it."
Averi,"What?"
Kori,"Yay!"
"This is a good way to get you out of your shell. You know since you and Paityn don't go to school together anymore."
Kori,"Who's Paityn?"
"Her best friend."
Kori,"I didn't know you had a best friend."
Averi,"I didn't know you'd still be here."
Kori,"What was she like?"
Averi,"U-Uh uH-"
"Hey Kori, do you know my name?"
Kori,"No."
"I'm Malachi Keagen. The eldest son of the Keagen family. I'm 18 years old and a senior at Sobel High School. I am president of the National Honors Society and student council president of the graduates of 2019. Pleased to meet you."
Kori,"I'm Kori Archard. Nice to meet you."
Malachi,"Pleasure's mine."
Kori,"Why doesn't Averi want to talk about Paityn?"
Malachi,"Oh no, that's not it. She just gets weird when trying to describe people. A little quirk of hers."
Kori,"Oh. I know three quirks now!"
Averi,"Three?"
Kori,"Yup."
Averi,"What are they?"
Kori,"I'm not going to let you know silly."
Averi,"Why are you here Malachi?"
Malachi,"Oh, uh. Reasons."
Averi,"Such as?"
Malachi,"I was maybe fired yesterday~"
Averi,"Really?"
Malachi,"It's not my fault! This guy was being rude to this young lady and I went over and yelled at him. The manager saw it as me 'hassling the customer' when he was doing wrong. My opinion, I should've gotten promoted!"
Kori,"You're a really nice guy huh."
Malachi,"I guess I am. Not sure though. I can do better. Just stick up for what's right."
Kori,"You are wise."
Malachi,"Learned everything from my grandma. May she rest in peace."
Kori,"When did she die?"
Malachi,"Two years ago. She went after we left when visiting her at a home."
Kori,"Oh. I'm sorry for you lost."
Malachi,"Me too. Wait what's the right thing to say to that?"
Kori,"I don't know."
Averi,"I thought you just nodded at the person."
Kori,"Aren't you supposed to say words?"
"Shame on you. Changing the subject like that. You were just speaking of your dead grandmother."
"You know she wouldn't care. She would carry on the conversation."
"Hi Averi!"
Averi,"Hi Laci. Hi mom and dad."
Dad,"I just think it's rude when you speak of the dead like that."
Mom,"It's rude when you know that person cares. Mom talked about her death all the time and she doesn't care. She would've made a remark that made us all burst in laughter."
Laci,"Who's that Averi?"
Averi,"A friend."
Kori,"Hi I'm Kori Archard. Averi and I go to school together. Sorry that I didn't ask to come over. It's just that I'm waiting for my sister to come get me and I was wondering if you'd let me take Averi to the dance in three weeks."
Dad,"Averi is going to a dance?"
Mom,"Of course! Is it just you two or a group?"
Kori,"Just us. That way I can make sure she's okay for the whole dance."
Mom,"That's very thoughtful of you."
Dad,"This is unreal."
Mom,"What, uh, dance is this?"
Kori,"Something stupid but I'm sure it'll be fun."
Mom,"Okay. Uh when are you girls going dress shopping? Do you need money?"
Kori,"No m'am but thanks. I was thinking maybe Saturday if that's okay. My sister will take us. She needs a dress too for her highschool."
Dad,"How old is your sister?"
Kori,"She's seventeen and is a junior. She goes to a different high school."
Mom,"Oh, uh why?"
Kori,"I wanted to transfer. Something happened at my old school that I didn't like and my dad let me transfer."
Dad,"Oh. We're sorry to here that."
Kori,"Me too."
Kori,"Well I think I should go. My sister should be here by now. Goodbye."
Mom&Dad,"Goodbye Kori."
Laci,"Bye Kori!"
Malachi,"Peace."
Averi,"I can walk you out."
~
Mom,"She's nice."
Malachi,"It's Kori's second day there. She's forced Averi into dating her."
Mom,"huh?"
Laci,"That's weird."
Dad,"So under that niceness there's a whole lot of crazy. I knew this was unreal."
