Taraweeh (the night prayer) Part II
Yesterday we talked about the rewards of praying taraweeh and looked at some hadith about the prophet praying taraweeh. Today we will talk about how the prophet prayed taraweeh and how the Qur’an should be recited.
‘Aisha (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed one night in the mosque, and the people followed him in prayer. Then he prayed the next night, and many people came. Then they gathered on the third or fourth night, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not come out to them. The next morning he said: “I saw what you did, and nothing kept me from coming out to you except the fact that I feared that it would be made obligatory for you.” And that was in Ramadan
This hadith show’s that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) preferred to pray taraweeh with the congregation and that taraweeh is a Sunnah.
It is mentioned in Musanif ibn Abi Shayba, Tabraani and Baihaqi on the authority of Ibn Abbas that the Prophet used to pray 20 Rak'ats in Ramadhan besides witr.
This hadith explains how the prophet prayed 2o rakats in Ramadan, and then pray the witr.
I conclude with a hadith narrated by ‘Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would forgo doing something that he liked to do lest the people do it and it become obligatory upon them.
Authors Note: Sorry this post is so short, I couldn’t find the hadith I was looking for. I’ll update this post when I find it, inshallah.
