Fifteen-year-old Vivian Hayman came out, accidentally, as gay shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in favor of same-sex marriage two and a half years ago. And she knows, if her mother had a choice in the matter, she would just be a lesbian, too. Her older half-sister, Taylor, an engaged event planner obsessed with weddings (and bridal showers, of course), has been planning a huge "lesbian wedding" for her, despite the fact that she has yet to find herself in a committed, long-term relationship (and, not to mention, is only fifteen). So when Vivian and her mother move to be closer to her grandfather, Vivian leaves behind the tight queer friendships she had formed, as well as her small sense of belonging in the world. When she meets and becomes closer to a classmate, who happens to be a guy, Vivian finds that she feels attracted to him, in turn questioning everything she thought she valued most about herself and her queer identity. This book will explore the complexity of attraction, the fluidity of sexuality, and how, sometimes, our self-concept can hold us back from the person we are becoming.

Hey everyone! Thank you for reading this first "part" of my new work. I hope you enjoyed it. Make sure to leave a comment (or two!) (or three or four) and let me know what you think. I really value your feedback!! You can also vote for and save this story to your library to be notified when I post the first (and subsequent!) chapter(s); that would help me out a lot! Just so you are aware, every part of this story will feature a queer singer/songwriter, and if you have any suggestions for that, you can also drop me a comment. The song featured in this section is "Wait for Me" by A.W. (Weiss), a non-binary performer who makes super fun, catchy indie-pop music (with a twinge of lyrical sadness). I thought it was rather appropriate considering Vivian and her mom have moved away from her childhood home and close friends. I cried the first time I heard this song (as well as all the times after that...) ngl.

Also, in terms of the cast list for the characters included in this story, I tried to remain relatively true to age (as opposed to selecting actors in their 30s to represent teenagers... hey there, TV and movie industry). There will probably be additional characters in the future that represent other identity groups, like transgender, non-binary/genderqueer, refugee/immigrant, etc. etc. I have a basic outline for this story, but let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to see, and I will take it into consideration! I will try to post a chapter every Thursday, if not more often, but as I am a junior in college, this might not always be possible. But for now, you can expect the first chapter next Thursday. Thanks guys (gals, and non-binary pals, à la Thomas Sanders)!

You've reached the end of published parts.
