"hey ethan," i grin.

he smirks at me, "(y/n), we finally meet."

"thank the actual lords," i exclaim and hug him. it doesn't take too long for him to hug me back.

"it's been a hot minute," i sigh, wishing we could go back to high school.

my childhood best friend. my hand to hold. my high school sweetheart. and unfortunately, that's where it stopped. high school.

he nods and we order one pineapple pizza. "i missed you so much, you don't even know." he breaks the ice.

"i know, it was so hard to stay away," i respond,  fresh tears forming, threatening to spill.

we still did stay best friends during college but actual physical contact made us drift apart.

he nods. "so, um, i did call you here for a reason," he says, an unsure look on his face.

i nod, and lace my fingers through his. "you can tell me," i encourage.

"i'm going to get married."

i suck in a sharp breath, feeling like a knife just stabbed me 20 times. i feel like i'm drowning, but still not dying. suffocating, but still is breathing.

"that's g-good, ethan! i'm so happy for you!" i plaster a fake smile.

"thank you for supporting me," he smiles faintly. "anything for you. who's the lucky girl?" i grin.

"sofia olivera. don't know if you've heard of her but, uh, we love each other," he says.

"i'm so happy! i'm going to be your best man, right? grayson who? i want to be there next to you to support you," at this point i don't even know what i'm saying.

laughs escape his lips.

- - - five hours later - - -

we spent the whole day together. after all these years, we got a day.

———ETHAN'S POV———

i can't believe it. i'm not marrying the love of my life. i'm marrying Sofia, yes, but not the love of my life. (y/n).
