Just A Mannequin

The mirror told me things that need to be changed,

From the color of my hair to the size of my hips,

Society had forced me into this treacherous game.

But the mirror never told me things that need not to be changed,

The smile on my face,

This heart it ain't lifeless.

When will I learn that it is not about the prices,

That life is more than just appearances.

That life is more on how souls are restless,

How societal standards are cruelly relentless,

Putting a tag on our body like mannequins that are soulless,

Isn't that silliness to the most obvious crisis?

Explanation

In a world where beauty standards are increasingly in demand, I  found myself getting more and more concern about the way I look outside instead of how I treat others. This poem serves as a reminder to myself and hopefully to you as well, that what matters the most should not be your appearances, but that beauty should come from the inside first.

Author's note

What are your insecurities when it comes to the way you look? For me, it has always been my hair.
