Joe handed Penny her slim jim's and they both sat down to look at the city lights in front of them. A pleasant silence fell over the two of them until Joe broke it.
"Its great having you back."
Penny turned and looked at him with admiration, "Thanks Joe. It's really good to be back with all of you." She smiled and took a large bite out of her snack
"So," He swiveled in his chair to face the girl next to him. "Any of those tinder dates work out?"
"Surprisingly, no." Penny laughs through her mouthful of food. "I mean, nobody is really beating down my door to date me."
She jumped back as Joe placed his hand down comfortingly on her knee. "Hey don't say that. Anybody would be lucky to be with you."
"Joe."
"No. Can you just listen to me for a second?" Penny stayed quiet which Joe took as a signal to continue. "I still care for you. Of course I still care for you because I didn't want to end it. That was all you. And I'm not gonna tell you that I never stopped loving you, because I did. But every time I get away you find a way to pull me back in. And I'm sorry I just quoted Cage the Elephant but I'm emotional right now."
"I. I don't know what to say. Yes, I still have feelings for you. I know how much I hurt you."
Joe, who has been looking down his entire speech, finally made eye contact with his friend. "Yeah. You did. And I'm afraid you'll do it again, but I'm willing to take that risk."
"I don't want you to take the risk," Penny grabbed Joe's hands. "There will be no risk because I will tell you when stuff happens instead of running away. I promise you that."
"Does that mean I can kiss you now?"
"I guess it does mean that."
Penny grabbed the collar of Joe's sweatshirt and pulled him until his lips touched hers, but only for a split second. The kiss was soon interrupted by the door flying open.
"Oh!" Finn quietly yelled as he walked outside, "Yeet!" The boy ran back through the door already having interrupted a moment between his bestfriends.
