It'll take some time to get used to the angle of this bedroom. It allows a perfect stream of morning sunlight to filter through the thin curtains. It's been a few weeks that I've been living here and I was hoping that I'd adjust and be able to sleep through the sun, particularly on the weekends when I've been working late. But so far, no such luck. Like clock work, I can feel the heat coming through and see the bright light behind my closed lids.
It might be time to consider asking mom to put some thick block out backing on the cream curtains.
Figuring that I'll accept the fact that I'm up and there's no chance that I'll get back to sleep, I roll over and throw an arm over the side of the bed to fetch my cellphone from the floor. The home screen reads that it's ten in the morning, which isn't the worst. It could have been earlier.
Settling on to my back with the phone above my face I hope that it doesn't drop and smash me in the nose as I begin the morning ritual of checking notifications before I get up for the day. I'm not sure what the point is, there's never much waiting for me. A few snaps. An odd email. Perhaps an alert from the bank app to remind me that I'm broke. Cheers for that.
But I smile when I see a text from Dallas.
Arrived in Boston. The apartment complex is to die for. Oh and my itch has been scratched. In case you were wondering 😉 watch the game tonight ! I'm gonna be in the top dogs box with the champagne and comfortable seating. Perks !
Thanks for letting me know. I was super concerned about the itch 🙃😂 haha. And sure I guess I can watch. Pop a titty if you get on camera.
You haven't changed at all. 😂 there will be no titty popping. But if I blow a kiss, catch it. It's for you!
You're a bit cute aren't ya. Hahaha
Haha. Talk later. Love you. x
Sitting up with a smile as a result of the amusing conversation, I flick the sheets back and stay seated while I lift the bird's nest on my head into a manageable top knot before I get out of bed and search for my contacts.
Once I'm not half blind, the bed is made and I've thrown an oversized hoodie on, which almost hides my little shorts, I head out to the hallway and am instantly surprised to hear the voice of my daughter. Considering that she's supposed to be at her Dad's, I'm left to wonder why I can hear her and Nathan chattering from the living space.
I creep out and stay hidden in the corridor, but peek around the wall to spot them standing in the kitchen. Lydia has a chair pulled up at the countertop, she's wearing her little apron and Nathan is guiding her through how to crack an egg.
"Just like this, hold either side." The two of them have one each and I quietly giggle as Lydia sticks her tongue out and concentrates on copying Nathan. "Bump it on the edge, but not too hard. . . Perfect! And gently pull the shell apart."
"Ohh." Lydia pouts with disappointment. "I got shell in my bowl, Nathan."
"That's okay," he laughs and slides the bowl towards him. "That's why we do it separately first, we'll get the shell out and then you can pour it in with the other stuff. Yeah?"
