Sam drove us out of Lost Creek, I was very happy to leave that place. And also shocked that Dean let Sam drive. I spent my time in the backseat napping with Sylvester though, I wasn't allowed to do much because of what the Wendigo did to me. But after Dean picked up a few newspapers, he decided to stop at a diner to eat. Sam carried me in, it smelled nice. "Table for three?" the waitress asked, I felt Sam nod his head. "Right this way," the woman said and Sam started walking again.  Dean ordered a huge burger with extra onions, Sam ordered a salad, and I ordered chicken nuggets. Dean had gotten me a sling for my arm though, I wasn't allowed to take it off though. Dean started looking through the newspaper when Sam left to go to the bathroom, circling a few articles. The waitress walked up not long after that, "Can I get you anything else?" she asked, Dean looked up at her with the end of the pen in his mouth, he grinned at her. "Just the check please," Sam told her as he sat back down. I ate another french fry. "Okay," she grinned as she turned back around to go into the kitchen. Dean watched her go before bending his head to look at the table in disappointment. "You know, Sam, we are allowed to have fun once in a while," Dean said as he turned to look at Sam. Dean pointed towards the kitchen, "That's fun," he told him. Sam rolled his eyes and gestured towards me. Dean sighed and handed him a newspaper with an article he'd just circled. "Here, take a look at this, I think I got one," Dean told him, Sam took the paper and started to skim over it. "Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week, Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walks into the lake, doesn't walk back out. Authorities dragged the water, nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either, they had a funeral two days ago." Sam looked a little confused, "A funeral?" he asked. Dean nodded, "Yeah, they buried an empty coffin. For uhm, closure or whatever," Dean answered with a dismissive wave of his hand as he went back to the other newspapers. "Closure? What closure? People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them," Sam told him. I took a long sip of my water, not this again. "Something you want to say to me?" Dean asked, getting defensive. "The trail for Dad, it's getting colder every day," Sam exaggerated the sentence. "What are we supposed to do?" Dean asked, Sam didn't really have an answer. "I don't know, something. Anything," Sam was getting louder. "I'm sick of this attitude," Dean snapped at him, "You don't think I want to find Dad as much as you do?" he asked. "Yeah, I know you do. It's just-" Dean cut him off. "I'm the one who's been with him every single day for the last two years. While you've been off to college, doing pep-rallies. We will find Dad, but until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?" Dean sounded a bit like Dad there, I took another long sip of my water. Sam rolled his eyes and Dean got distracted by the waitress walking past. Sam rolled his eyes again, "All right, Lake Manitoc," Sam started, but noticed Dean wasn't paying attention, "Hey!" Dean looked over at him, "Huh?" Sam rolled his eyes again, "How far?" Sam asked again. I got up and went to the bathroom while they discussed that. When I got back, Dean was waiting for me and Sam was in the car.

About two hours later, we pulled up to a small little house next to a lake. The trees around it were pretty, Dean went back to the glove box and grabbed another set of badges. "Chris, you're staying in the car," he told me as he turned to look at me. I nodded and laid down in the backseat, pulling my blanket over me and curled up with Sylvester to wait. Sam and Dean got out of the car after I did that, I heard their talking fade as they got to the house. I curled up in a ball and drifted off to sleep not long after that. They weren't gone for five minutes, but I continued to try to take my nap. Falling asleep didn't take long. I didn't get to sleep very long either before Dean woke me up. "Come on short stack," he said as he shook my leg. I groaned and curled up farther into the blanket. He sighed and got out, but then he opened my door and picked me up, leaving the blanket and Sylvester behind. "Come on, inside we go," Dean told me as he carried me into the sheriff's office. "Can I help you?" an older looking man asked, Sam answered. "Uh yeah, we're with the wildlife service. We're looking into Sophie Carlton's drowning," Sam told him. The man sounded confused as he looked at me. "And you brought a child on an investigation?" he sounded skeptical. "She was recently attacked by a bear in Colorado I don't want to let her out of my sight anytime soon," Dean told him with a nod. The man nodded in a bit of understanding before going back to the original topic, "Now, I'm sorry, but why does the wildlife service care about an accidental drowning?" he asked. Sam walked in front of us, "You sure it's accidental?" Sam asked, "Will Carlton saw something grab his sister," Sam told him. "Like what?" the sheriff asked as he led us to a small office area behind the desk. "Here, sit, please," he told us, "There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake. There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Lochness Monster," he told us. Dean put me in one of the chairs before sitting down himself. "Yeah... right," Dean said with a small laugh. The sheriff continued, "Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still, we dragged that entire lake, we even ran a sonar sweep. Just to be sure, and there was nothing down there." he assured us. Dean leaned forward, "That's weird though, that's the third missing body this year," Dean told him. The sheriff sighed, "I know, these are people from my town. These are people I care about," he told us. Dean nodded his head, "I know." The sheriff sighed again, "Anyway... all this... it won't be a problem much longer." The sheriff told us as he leaned back in his chair. Sam and Dean tilted their heads, "What do you mean?" Dean asked. The sheriff looked at them like it was obvious, "Well the dam of course," he told them. Dean leaned back in his chair, sitting up straight, "Of course, the dam. It's uh, sprung a leak..." Dean said. The sheriff raised an eyebrow again, "It's falling apart. And the feds won't give us the grant to fix it, so they've opened the spillway. In another six months, it won't be much of a lake. Won't be much of a town either. But as federal wildlife, you already knew that," he told them. I yawned and curled up in the chair. "Exactly," Dean told him. A woman walked in, "Hey, am I interrupting? I can come back later," she offered as she started to turn around. "Gentlemen, this is my daughter," the sheriff told us. Dean walked over to her and offered a hand, "It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Dean." The woman smiled and shook his hand, "Andrea Bar, hi." The sheriff started to talk again, "They're from the wildlife service about the lake." Andrea's expression changed, "Oh," was all she said. A red-headed boy, older than me appeared from behind her, "Oh hey there, what's your name?" Dean asked. He only turned around and went back behind Andrea, who turned and walked back into the lobby area. "His name is Lucas," the sheriff told us. "Is he okay?" Sam asked, looking away from Lucas as he was being handed crayons. "My grandson's been through a lot, we all have..." he trailed off. Then he changed his mood, "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know," the sheriff told us as he started to show us to the door. Dean picked me up and started to leave, "You know, now that you mention it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?" Dean said, as he finished his question he looked at Andrea. Really Dean? Andrea stared at him for a moment, "Lakefront Motel, go around the corner. It's two blocks up," she told him. Dean looked at the ceiling and muttered, "Two..." before looking over at her, "Would you mind showing us?" he asked. Andrea laughed slightly, "You want me to walk you two blocks?" Sam sighed heavily and rolled his eyes, "Not if it's any trouble," Dean told her dismissively. "I'm headed that way anyway," Andrea said with a smile. Andrea turned back towards the sheriff, "I'll be back to pick up Lucas at three." She leaned over to hug Lucas, "Then we'll go to the park okay sweetie?" she didn't get a reply. Lucas continued to color. "Thanks again," Sam told the sheriff as we followed Andrea out. I poked Dean in his side, he looked over at me as we walked out, "Yeah short stack?" he asked, Andrea turned around a bit confused until she saw he was talking to me. "It hurts," was all I had to say before Sam grabbed my medicine out of his pocket and handed it to Dean. Dean jogged over to the car, opened the trunk and grabbed a water from the ice chest. Andrea watched as I took it, "What happened to her?" she asked as she walked back over. "We went on a little... camping trip in Colorado. She wandered off and a big grizzly found her, we scared it off before it could do anything to bad, but it still got her," Sam told her. "Not gonna let her out of your sight huh?" she asked as Dean picked me up again. Dean nodded, "I'm not gonna let some stranger babysit her, so she's just tagging along," Dean told her. I drifted off to sleep on Dean's shoulder as my medicine kicked in.
