Karma is real. The past will come haunting - me.

The hospital smelt the same. The toxic smell of medicine and Izal. She almost choked on her breath. Couldn't they use Dettol. Nonso walked closely behind her, his hands on the small of her back. She often wondered why such a good hearted person would still want her.

They had woken up on different beds in the morning, he'd woken her up, reminding her of the hospital appointment. He'd been smiling at her and his smile had killed the tension.

"Derin!" Warm soft hands wrapped around her. The unmistakable scent of her mother lingered in her nose.

"Momma," she breathed, sinking happily into her mother's comforting arms.

She didn't want to let go. She needed the comfort her mother's hugs always gave. Her mother pulled away.

Their eyes locked.

"How are you? I missed you."

Derin chuckled. "It's only been two days mom, stop."

Her mother frowned. "Is it bad to miss you?"

Derin shook her head and let out a low giggle.

"So, what test am I here for again?" Derin turned serious, all evidences that she had laughed seconds ago wiped away.

Her mother stepped back. "Just a test. It's not important,"

Derin snorted. "It's important if I have to take it."

Her mother's brows creased. Minutes past and she said nothing. Only giving Derin a scrutinizing stare.

"You know." Her mother concluded, her voice laced with fury. "Who told you,"

It was no miracle, no matter the faking, Shola Adeyi still had the power to read her, and read her well.

"Mo-"

"Was it that Man? That Nonso -"

"Mom! It's not Nonso," Derin looked behind her. But Nonso wasn't there, he was gone.

"Miss Adeyi, to the waiting room,"

It is time.

                       *********

He'd been standing beside Derin, watching the display of affection her mother gave. It warmed his heart that her mother loved her. He missed his.

His phone beeped. He slipped it out of his pocket and stared at the message he received.

A message from Sodiq.

He punched in his password, and swiped the phone.

Let's meet, I have good news... Maybe it's bad. Coffee at the Rich café Aja, RN.

He stepped back.

This news better be good, sodiq.

He made to tap Derin, but stopped when he saw how interested she was in what her mother was saying. He turned around and walked out the hospital door. His anxiety to know what his agent had discovered pushed him to drive almost past speed limit.

What do you have for me.

The Rich Café, Aja came into veiw. The brown mabel glimmered in the sun. He drove into the parking lot and dialled Sodiq.

"Sodiq," he said once the line was connected.

"Boss man." Sodiq's tiny voice echoed into the phone. His voice was a total constract to his physical appearance.
