To err is human; to forgive, divine. Alexander Pope.

Ify sat at the edge of the bed, while Lola sat on the plastic chair beside. The two fair ladies in the group. Derin lay down on the bed, her head staring at the ceiling as she listened in on her friends conversation.

"Mehn... You should have seen this guy. His head looked like Agege bread, he was na telling me that he can buy me," Lola's voice rang out.

Ify erupted in laughter while Derin smiled.

"Ah! I was like do you know who my father is? The guy was like who cares, I'll buy his ass... The moment he said that, I started laughing. I told him to go to river niger and wash his head, that his village people were dancing shoki on his glory."

And this was Lola, her stories always ended up in her giving the final blow, the very painful final blow that sent you thinking about your future.

Derin's mind was far away. She had stayed three days in the hospital, the throbbing between her legs had stopped but the ones on her head and shoulders were still there. Closing her eyes, she saw hazel ones. The ones she had not seen since sunday. He never came back.

Her friends had come every single day, they'd stayed by her yet she didn't want them. She wanted Nonso. He had made her laugh.

Her mother rushed into the room with an Aboniki balm in hand. She moved to Derin.

"Sit up, let me massage your forehead."

Derin did as instructed.

"Mummy Aboniki..... It's too this thing naa,"

Ify snickered. "Too what?"

"Too... What's the word?"

"Like pepper, like your eye?" Ify snickered.

"I hate aboniki. It's the so minty. It's the most effective balm." Lola laughed.

Derin glared at her. "You guys get now..."

"Derin answer me. I need to get do somethings..."Her mother groaned, tightening the buba around her waist.

"Like?"

"Answer me!" Shola snapped.

Derin groaned then she stayed still and let her mother massage her forehead.

Alex Amadi, his best friend, shoved him lightly as they walked towards the court room.

"Remind me why you decided to take this case. You are not a criminal lawyer."

Nonso shrugged. "I just need to do this, for something,"

Alex raised a brow. "Hm. Ok oh! Just do your thing and be cool, half of the case has been taken care of like I said. Did you visit the lawyer in the hospital?"

"Yeah. I did. He brushed me up,"

Nonso had been offered to finish up a case for a fellow lawyer who had a fatal accident and had been in the hospital for weeks. He'd been reluctant to take the case, but after Sunday's visit to Derin, he'd called his assistant Monday morning and told her to inform the lawyer and the client that he'd be taking the case.

It was the last day, he didn't have much to do than to put in the final touches and win the case. He admitted to himself that if he won this case, it would increase his standards and make his name known. People would no longer see him as the son of Ikenna Orji but as Nonso Orji.
