CHAPTER 2 THE PITYFUL PITTFALL
Cody cancels his meeting his girlfriend to attend the meeting at the diner
"There he is!" Derek calls out
"Hey, nice choice" Cody says as he shakes Dereks hand
"Well you know me, I want the best of everything"Derek Declares "Hey I want you to meet my friend and solicitor Josh Rallings, and the guy devouring that steak is Rory Gatsby..No thats actually his name, a high flying lawyer to, say hello to them Cody"
Cody shakes their hands and takes a seat
"What are you having" Derek asks
"A milkshake will do I already had a big breakfast" Cody says
"Ok one milkshake coming up, Now I have another meeting to go to so I will make this quick and fruitful for all of us, This is the paperwork I had discussed with you earlier, you see, Im a man of my word, it's all their, word for word just like we discussed"
Cody looks at all the paperwork "This is all a bit quick, I mean I may need my own lawyer to check all this out, but it looks good ..to be honest"
"Thats why I'm here" Josh declares " Derek asked me to look after you, deal with your fininacials, unless you already have a guy for that?"
"No, no I don't" He reveals
"Good, then thats settled then" Derek comments in his domineering manner
"Thats a good fucking contract Cody, grab it with both hands brother " Rory says
Cody is in deep thought then nods he's head "And my Manager?"
"I'm paying for you Cody, Not that guy, your making a lot of money now , you want to pay him from your cut to train you, that's your call but I have a trainer a lot better, had a lot of good fighters, you bring him in, and its on me" Derek tells him
"My coach stays, you can manage you can promote, but my coach ain't going that's all I ask, or demand I should say"
Derek nods his head "I can live with that" As he takes out his Gold Parker pen out from his blazer pocket "Sign your destiny kid" He says with a big grin
Cody hesitates like he has a bad feeling, but he goes ahead with it anyway and signs his name on the dotted line
The talk a bit then Derek has to leave and shortly after Cody also leaves, He later decides to visit his Coach and Manager Donny at the gym
Donny is sat at the office with his Assistant Dominic, Donny gets off the phone, he looks disapointed and says "Hey Champ " Unconvincingly
"Hey Donny, we did good huh last night, almost not a scratch on me too" Cody tells him with a big smile
"Yeah you did real good I'm proud of ya" The old coach says
Sensing the cold atmosphere Cody asks "Whats up with you guys are you hungover or something?"
"We had a few calls earlier, we heard you shafted us, never had you down as a Judas Code, Just goes to show, You can't trust anyone" Dominic states
"What are you talking about, You guys are still going to be my trainers, I made sure they put it in the contract" He tries to assure them
Donny mumbles "I am done with it Cody, I just stayed in the game a little longer hoping to get you to the top as a Champ, then retire, but I Will will retire at the end of the this month and pass on the reigns to Dom, I feel he's ready" he says to Cody as he nods his head
"I don't understand this, I did nothing wrong, he offered me a lot of money, I got bill's to pay and he offered me a shot at the title"
"Even if you get it now it's tainted with politics amongst other things that guy has a murder conviction and he was convicted for manslaughter on a drink driving charge, that man's no good for us, your New Manager Derek...that guy is poison, your way out of your depth now, and your on your own, I have other fighters to train, sorry" Dominic tells him
"Come on Dom, don't be like that were a team a family!"
"Yea was, not no more Cody, You went behind our back, that ain't how teams work and sure ain't how families work, and Derek he has a history with Donny and it isn't good" Dominic tells him
"That ain't how it was and you know it, and how was I suppose to know that?"Cody tries to defend himself
"Clear out your locker on your way out Code" Dominic tells him
Cody turns and looks at Donny "Seriously?"
Donny sips on his coffee and says nothing
"Ok.. I see how it is, I heard all I need to hear, you can sell my things in the locker, maybe it will be valuable memorabilia after I'm champ"
"You ain't gonna be champ, the reason you got as far as you have ...is sitting right there ..dipping his biscuits in his coffee, without him, your just another fighter" Dominic says
"Really? Is that what you guys think, it's all coming out now ay?"
Donny shakes his head disagreeing with Dom
"DOM, That's enough, Cody...there is no bad blood from my side, I wish you well kid, and your always welcome here, just he wants the locker for some new blood,it's not personal" Donny tells him
"Oh its personal, If that's not personal then tell me what is " He says as he turns to look at Dom " I known you guys since I was young and all my adult life, you Dom...are bang out of order mate, it didn't have to be like this, Goodbye fellas" He looks directly at Dom and barges pass him as he walks out of the office
After he leaves Donny looks at Dominic to offer him some words of wisdom.
"You Dom are not a people person, their was no need for hostility or that type of conversation bitterness will only eat you up too in the end, He made a dumb move, why? Because he's a dumb kid, But its his choice, He don't know who Derek is, he will have to learn from his own mistakes, but one day if you see he needs your help...you me or anybody associated with this place should help him, he is welcome at this gym alright, he's one of us,the locker thing is your call but he is welcome here just as much as you are, and its still my gym even after I retire"
"Yea got it Donny" Dominic agrees
