It wasn't exactly uncommon. It wasn't common either, though.

A bit like being left handed. No one saw it as weird or unnatural (not anymore, anyway) but only handful of people per room had the ability.

Somewhere in some book by someone who decided to use their experience to gain fame wrote that only 1 in every 22 men had the ability to get pregnant.

Scientists had looked into it when the first 'man pregnancy' occurred in the 1960s. They expected that the ability had been present in humans long before that but seeing as few males 'came out' back then the pregnancies, if they occurred, were likely ended in secret. After analysis of Peter Andrews, the first official man to carry a baby, they determined that a small womb formed within males with a certain gene. Much like the way an egg prepares to be fertilised, a womb prepares to be formed. A lot of the science is yet to be officially published as it seemed the cases vary.

Despite this, the world now viewed male pregnancy as normal. Beautiful, even. The idea of homosexual males being able to reproduce also helped within the gay community in achieving equal rights. The church even began to support gays just a tad more as they could now 'go forth and multiply'.

Like being left handed people were sometimes surprised that this person was able to do such things but never was it a bad surprise. It was more along the lines of 'oh, that's quite interesting' and then they'd move on with their lives.

Now. That doesn't mean pregnant males didn't face the same issues as women. They did.

Uncertainty of the father, unplanned pregnancies, back pain, underage pregnancies, decisions about keeping a baby, cravings, raising a child, carrying a child, support from their friends and family, not finding about before they can abort and their nipples even start to hurt like a woman's breasts would.

About the only thing different was the fact that men's periods didn't stop, and that was only because they didn't have them to begin with.
