Chapter 40: Love Or Basketball

Start from the beginning

Before I continue, I'd like to tell you about myself. I was born in Toronto, Canada. I always have. After a few years I met my best friend Nyesha and she introduced me to her friend Chase. I attended an awesome elementary school. But as soon as we got into middle school, I realized I had feelings for him but I was almost to sure he didn't feel the same way. Life was going pretty good. I had finally found a great group of friends, and I had an amazing style. That's when he told me that he was moving.

Imagine an 14 year old year old, in love, just found out that her crush is moving. Hell I was crushed.

I'm going to be honest. I was not happy at all that he was moving. I didn't want him to leave me. Ever.. But there's not much a fourteen year old kid can do to persuade someone else's family. So I tried to get over it. I ignored his phone calls, text messages, everything.

I decided at that moment that my life from there on was going to be miserable. There was no way I was going to be happy again. Boy was that a lie. After much convincing my best friend Nyesha convinced me that I needed to get out and have fun. So we did

I then realized that the next four years of my life weren't going to be miserable without him. But then the most amazing thing happened. Grade 12 came around and he moved back. At first he didn't remember me because he was previously in a really bad car crash but not that much later he remembered me.

To be completely honest. It's the small town. It's the small school. It's good old, Toronto. That's what makes it so special, that's what makes the Class of 2015, special. We can walk down our school halls and know everybody's name. We have grown up with each other, we know something about each other. We can look at one another, and a lifetime of memories flash before our eyes.

I can't tell you how blessed I feel, how much I appreciate, growing up with you guys. And I can readily say I am proud to be apart of the Class of 2015. I am proud to call every one of you a member of my class. We have been apart of each other's lives for the past four, eight, and for some, eighteen, years. And today, in one single day, we finally move on.

I'm not going to say my high school experience was perfect. I'm not going to say that I didn't have some regrets, or missed opportunities. Every one of us went through the good times and the rough patches. But I wouldn't trade my high school experience for anything else. Everything that has happened to us, everything we have been through, has made us into who we are today. And it's these experiences, these life lessons, that we will take with us into the next step of our lives. Whether your high school experience was the greatest in the world, or if it was something that wasn't quite ideal, when we leave here today, just remember that your friends may be the only ones you need to get out of a stressful situation. I just really wanna thank my teachers for making me valedictorian and allowing me to have this opportunity to say what I had to say. I also want to thank my Best friends Nyesha, Nia, Cece, Janice, Dustin, Sam, Réquan and my boyfriend Chase. Without you guys I would be nothing so, thanks. Well graduates, congrats we made it

Everyone stood up and cheered and you could even he Chase yelling " You go girl".

Principal: the graduating class of 2015

We all threw our grad caps in the air and there were more claps and photo taking. We were officially graduates.

*****

Me, Diamond, Nia, Janice and Réquan were chillin at the park when Chase ran up to us.

Diamond: breathe my brotha breathe

Chase: Chyna handed me this note and told me to give this note to Nyesha. She said it was a life and death situation

Nia: then give her the damn note
