It was a terrible day. Rain was pouring and lightning was flashing as Jamal and Carol Dooley trudged down the sidewalk without their umbrellas. It just made the fact that Carol was unable to have children even worse.
Then, all of a sudden, the couple heard a cry in a ditch down the road. They ran to it, and saw a four year old laying there, her fiery red hair matted by the rain and mud. She was barely functioning, and she had cuts on her that didn't look like they were from outside. Attached to the girl's dress was a note. It read:
Don't try to find where she came from. We don't want her back, she disappointed us too many times. Take her. Maybe she won't disappoint you. Best regards, VK.
"Do you realize what this means?" Jamal asked.
"We can get a child?" Carol realized, tearing up in joy.
"Oh, Carol, we've got ourselves a child!"
As the couple picked up the four year old and walked away with her, a man watched, unseen, in the nearby tree.
"Don't worry," he mumbled, "My partner's rash actions will be punished. And I will get you back."
