"if the cell goes here..."
i began,
tracing my finger through the textbook in hopes of being able to retain it.
"then the-"
"y/n!"
the sweet voice yelled out.
i jerked up from my spot in the bed and instantly smiled:
bev was home.
"in the room!"
i called back.
the girl trailed up to the room,
setting her bag down on my bed.
she then leaned over and laid a kiss to my cheek before sitting down next to me.
"hey, love. whatcha studying?"
she asked.
"biology test tomorrow."
i mumbled before returning to my flash cards.
i looked at the question,
racking my mind for the answer but came up empty.
beverly smiled up at me then answered,
"mitosis."
"i-i knew that."
i spoke with a laugh.
"come on. we got this,"
she said before taking the flash cards into her hand,
beginning to help me study.
***
hour three of studying:
my head was pounding and my stress was building.
"y/n, my love. it's mitosis."
the girl answered for the millionth time,
setting the index cards down.
"don't stress yourself out. you're gonna do great!"
she spoke positively,
holding my hand with a smile.
it amazed me that she always found the strength to smile,
even when she was sick with stress or ire.
i groaned out and laid my tired body in her arms.
"sometimes i just wanna drop out."
i admitted with a playful smile,
closing my eyes while her fingers caressed my back.
"mm, me too. but, hey. we've got to get out of derry. can't do that without some high school diplomas, can we?"
"i don't know. let's just run away together."
i felt her stomach tighten as she laughed.
beverly then placed a soft, lingering kiss to my lips before saying,
"you have no idea how often i think of that."
we then sat in silence for some time,
soaking up each other's company.
my mind was running rampant from all the stimulation;
loving beverly always sparked something up inside of me.
"i love you,"
she spoke abruptly,
yet no hint of falseness in her tone.
my heart skipped a few beats with excitement.
"i love you, too."
i returned.
it had been the first time beverly and i ever spoke those sacred three words,
and it had been just as sweet and loving as i imagined.
