It was a warm day and Mittens was sad. Mittens didn't like where she lived. Her owner was mean. Mittens thought about running away everyday but she needed the right time. Mittens only wanted an escape for Christmas. Mittens only wanted to escape because her owner was abusing her. He abused her so badly she wished she could call the police. But she can't. She was only abused because she tries to defend herself. Whenever her owner hurts her, she scratches or bites. The result of that scratch/bite is a hit on the head. The bigger the scratch, the harder the hit. So she waited for December to come so she could escape. She was fluffy so the cold won't bother her. She took her time thinking of a way to escape. Then she remembered the hole in the fence. She was looking out the window when she first saw it. So she decided to go through there. Her owner doesn't feed her a lot so she knows she will fit. But then she realized she's gonna have to find food somehow. So she waited until her owner got home and when he did... SHE TOOK A FLYING LEAP OUT THE DOOR!
Her owner tried to catch her so she ran as fast as she could. The gate was open so she didn't have to squeeze through the tiny hole in the fence. She ran and ran and eventually her owner stopped chasing her. She was a tiny kitty so she can't run fast for very long. Then she saw another cat running down the sidewalk at just about the same speed as her. She was about to crash into them so she tried slowing down but she still wound up crashing into them. They both fell down but when they got up the other cat looked frightened as if they were running for the same reason as Mittens. Since cats can communicate with each other Mittens said
Mittens: "IM SORRY! Are you ok?"
Other Cat: "I...I..I guess so?"
Mittens: "Who are you?"
Jax: "Im Jax."
Mittens: "Im Mittens."
Mittens: "Why were you running so fast?"
Jax: "Why were YOU running so fast?"
Mittens: "Oh nothing just running from my abusive owner."
Jax: "Hey I am too!"
Mittens and Jax started walking and talking at the same time but then Jax YELLED as loud as he could and ran into a bush. Mittens was VERY confused. Then she noticed a big white van. It said in big letters
HIGHGARD ANIMAL CONTROL
HighGard is where Mittens lives. She didn't know it said animal control on the van because cats can't understand human languages. Then Jax flung her into the bush with him. Jax quietly explained what was happening. He said how animal control wants to capture any stray animals roaming the streets. And if they get caught they will be brought to an animal shelter even crueler than their owners. Then Mittens saw a human in a white jacket with a big net. "Who's that?" whispered Mittens. The person said "Where did he go? I couldda sworn I saw him runnin' around here a second ago." Jax then told Mittens "SHHH ssshhh" But then the person darted their head in the direction of the bush. Jax froze stiff. The person slowly walked over to the bush, then they quickly pulled apart the branches of the bush and at the same time swatted thier net down and scooped it up to find Jax and Mittens in the net. "Well I see you found yourself a little FRIEND. Well when we get to the shelter you little runners are gonna be in a cage together. ON THE TOP FLOOR." the person said. Mittens started questioning things such as what the person meant by "top floor". She asked Jax, "Uh what does she mean by "top floor"?" Jax replied with "In this animal shelter its not normal. They put the animals in cages but they stack the cages on top of each other so if you're on the top floor, that means if you look down.....yeah." Mittens then said "How do you know all this?" Jax once again replied "I've been before but never have I ever been to the top floor." Mittens then said, with a little hesitation, "Wow." By the time they had finished talking they were in a cage in the back of the white van on the way to the shelter. |to be continued...>
