Psstt. This chapter will surely bring light to the fact that I really suck at describing visual stuff. Honestly, I usually describe the character's psychological state more than anything else, so this chapter was tough to write for me. Not only that, it was created over an extended period of three school days, so... Please bear with me, and do tell me if you have suggestions on how I can improve, or tell me what you liked or disliked about this!
Chapter 19
Giving a fuss had been of absolutely no use. Bart was determined to help out his fellow ancestor, and wasn't about to back down no matter what arguments you threw his way. And trust me, you sent a lot.
"What if you get lost in his circuits? What if whatever type of antibodies he has goes after you? What if he has a virus and you get infected with it? What if you get trapped?"
But none of that shook the young speedster in the slightest. He was going in, no matter what.
Wally, quite unlike you, didn't bother trying to convince his cousin otherwise. He had known him long enough to be aware that if he had a goal, he would go through it.
Thus the reason that he was currently downloading Bart's data into a USB key that he had connected to said speedster's case, pointedly ignoring your shrill complains. Bart merely watched from a distance, arms crossed, and his expression somber.
"Come on, Wally, you can't let him go like this! You're even more aware of the risks than I am!" You frantically shook the redhead's shoulder, wanting to deviate his attention from the case in his hands. At the lack of support from the Kid Flash, your distress only multiplied tenfold. "Why won't you guys listen to me!?"
"Because you're being childish!!" Bart's sudden snap slapped you in the face. Hard.
Hurt by his remark, you slowly turned back toward him. You were already choked up as you whimpered, unable to quite accept what you had just heard him say, "W-What?" The Bart you knew would've never said such a thing.
Letting out a heavy sigh, the male pushed himself off of the wall, scratching nervously at the back of his neck. "Look, (Y/N). I know this might seem scary to you, but I have to do this." He went over to you, his steps slow and cautious, for he did not want to intimidate your shaky, fragile self. Both his touch and his eyes held a newfound, gentle fondness as he lightly gripped your shoulders and murmured softly, "It's for the sake of speedsters. We can't let The Flash go and reset some more altered Kid Flashes and Impulses. And if something does happen to me..." He averted his gaze. "It's worth sacrificing one Impulse to save over a million."
His gaze jolted back toward you when suddenly, you attacked him with a hug. Taken off-guard, Bart grew stiff for a moment, staring slightly in shock, before he gave off a sad smile, returning your tight embrace. He felt tears wet his shirt. Tears of fear for his safety.
"P-Please come back. Be careful. To me, you're worth more than all the speedsters in the world."
That was the last thing Bart heard before he was withdrawn from the physical world, his humanoid form faltering and then fully disappearing as he was absorbed back into his case and into Wally's USB key.
What... Where...?
Upon awakening, Bart was rather perplexed at the fact that his programming hadn't offered its usual, droned report about his systems, the current time and such. Feeling slightly fazed, the speedster blinked sleepily, although... He had no eyelids to blink!
This alarming realization jerked the boy awake, who stood up straight, staring around frantically. ...A tunnel. He was in a gray, dull tunnel of some sort.
