♔ xiv. "Can I stay beside you?"

Start from the beginning

"Oppa, are you sick?"

I guess it's not that obvious?

"Do you need anything, oppa?"

Zip all your mouths, please. That's what I need.

"You can have my lunch for later, oppa. It's homemade. Much better than cafeteria food especially when you're not feeling well."

"Hey! Don't bother him- oppa, here's water."

"Oppa-"

"Oppa-"

More of this and I'm done for.

"Jimin oppa-"

It was the last straw. The screeching of chair had caught everyone's attention and had stopped the ruckus the circle of girls made. The boys in the class were not sure if they should feel bad or jealous for him. It was obvious that he wasn't in the mood for socializing with the girls clearly because the moment he and Taehyung entered, they all figured he was sick.

Silence ensued; tension was built as everyone stared at the unnerved figure of him stood still.

Wendy followed Taehyung with her eyes when he had rushed out of the class. Unsure why he was leaving his sick best friend alone. Maybe Jimin needed something? Water, maybe? "I didn't know Jimin's immune system was this weak." Wendy muttered, turning to the girl beside her.

She hesitated to say another word as she looked at the intense stare Seulgi had towards the hoard of girls surrounding Jimin. Wendy noticed that she had been staring at Jimin the exact moment he and Taehyung stepped in class. Her hands both stiffly laid on her lap, she sat too straight and stiffly that it bothered Wendy.

At first, it only looked as if she was worried the whole time she was staring but when a huddle had made its way around him, her best friend's figure was tense and she couldn't help but giggle at this.

"You should go and help him." Wendy nudged Seulgi gently who only spared her a glance before looking down at her hands, clenched in a fist tightly. Now, what is she thinking?

"Hey! Don't bother him- oppa, here's water."

A scoff and an obvious mock of snicker was heard beside them, both girls turned to Wendy's side. Krystal couldn't hide the distaste she was feeling at the moment. "Don't bother him." Krystal mocked under her breath. "All of them are obviously equally bothering him."

Flipping her hair, she turned to look at Seulgi and made a face. "Yah." Crossing her arms as if to add suspense, she continued. "You should go and help your prince in distress! Look at him being clawed like a prey- are you going to let those witches take advantage of him while he's weak?!"

Seulgi stared at their vexed friend momentarily before she turned back to the group in front. When she saw how obviously ill Jimin looked like, instantly, she felt bad. It was definitely because they played under the rain for far too long. The wind was strong and it was very cold at that time. Add the fact that they were even splashing water from the sea. Everything from yesterday's event was a factor as to why Jimin looked like he was suffering.

If only she had thought things more thoroughly. If only she had known that Jimin would get sick. If only she was a little bit more responsible than she was now. If only she knew better... Jimin wouldn't have been suffering from a fever. Guilt built up stronger inside her by every second that ticked and she could only sigh.

"Seulgi-ah." Brought back to her senses, she looked up at Wendy who was now standing beside a pissed off Krystal with her arms crossed.

"Yes?"

"The prof for the next class called me. I think he's probably not meeting us but I gotta go see him." Seulgi nodded and returned brooding over how it was her fault. Sensing the negative aura, Wendy placed a hand on top of her head. "I'm bringing Krystal with me, hm?" Seulgi nodded again, without looking this time.

"Be yourself, Seulgi-ah. I'm sure he needs it." Before Seulgi could ask what she meant, Wendy was already heading out leaving Krystal to trail behind her.

But of course, Krystal just had to make sure she had the final word. "You better do something about those girls." Tilting her head to the side, Seulgi watched as Krystal grunted in frustration.

"They have to know they should stop trespassing on your private territory." With a final hair flip, she left.

Before she could even ponder over what private territory she owns that Krystal was talking about, a screech on the floor from scraping of a chair resounded in the class, halting every word that slipped from anyone's lips.

His tense shoulder and stiff stature had caught her attention.

He's... mad.

There was a torturous silence. The noise had drove Jimin up the fucking wall and he had enough of it. Seulgi watched his every move, his laborious breathing was evident from the stillness of the whole class. When he finally moved, it was painfully slow that everyone felt the need to stop their breaths.

Slowly.

He turned.

Their eyes met, a hint of red on the corners. His shoulders dropped, she knew Jimin was making his way slowly towards her as he was not dropping his gaze from her eyes. He stumbled here and there, it was apparent that it took him a lot of effort to even walk.

Finally, staring up at him- she could now get a closer look of how his chest rose and fell quicker than normal. "Can I stay beside you?"

The words rung through her ear, disintegrated themselves right into her heart. She felt warm inside. Can I stay beside you? How does one reply to that coherently when she can't even let herself utter one word in fear that she might reply foolishly.

Instead of replying with words, she resorted into a way she was sure was safe. Seulgi slipped her hands on his, the warmth from his earlier words now doubled, gently tugging Jimin down beside her on Wendy's seat. I'm sure she won't mind.

Jimin smiled at her lazily and even in that state, his smile didn't fail to leave her breathless, heart beating erratically. It was only yesterday when she was graced with unlimited smiles from him and when their time together ended, she couldn't help but miss them.

Ignoring the effect it had on her, she let go of his hand and placed it gently on the nape of his neck and lightly pressed. "Sleep." She softly said, not taking her eyes off from his. Without doubt, he needed sleep. She can apologize for letting him get sick later. He needed to feel better first.

To Jimin, there was something about how she cared. How her expression despite the lack of emotion it showed greatly contrasted to how her eyes were fixed on him with unspoken worry. He dwelled on that as he took her hand from his nape and laced their fingers together.

"Thank you." He whispered close to her ear, his breath tickling her before he finally leaned his head on her shoulder. His hair softly tousled on the side of her neck and cheek.

She noted how he was no longer tense and stiff, on the contrary, he seemed very comfortable despite the position he was in. Seulgi stared at his sleeping face. He really does look like an angel. She agreed with all the comments about him from every girl who had their eyes on him.

From his face, Seulgi switched her gaze to their interlaced hands. How she always held hands with Jimin naturally was beyond her. But she can't say she didn't like it. She loved it, everything about it. To be able to touch him, feel his warmth slither from her hands up to her arm and to her whole being. The smile was one, and holding his hand was another. Things that were hard to explain, things that she continued wondering about.

"Get well soon." She whispered.

Seulgi gently leaned against him and closed her eyes as well. She felt far too peaceful that she couldn't help but close her eyes, an image of a beautiful boy with an angelic smile behind lids.
