author's note: i'm really not sure what i wanna do with point of view in this story. the prologue was in third-person but i think i wanna do the rest of it in scarlett's point of view? makes it more personal.

also, question: do you like the lowercase? if not i can change it :)

SCARLETT sunday 09.25.16

maia and i hopped out of our uber and i took a deep breath as i looked up at the building that read, "air canada centre". i had been here many times for various concerts and sporting events, but there was a different feeling now that it was my workplace. working for mlse had been my dream for years, especially since i started in sport media. maybe being an ice girl wasn't my ideal position, but it was a start. i had an mlse id card and that was what was keeping me motivated.

we met up with the other girls at gate 1 at 5:00 like we were told to do. puck drop was at 7:00, giving us 2 hours to get prepared and make sure everything was going to go smoothly. "hey! you're scarlett right?" someone tapped my shoulder and i turned around. it was a petite girl who i had noticed during tryouts, she had auburn coloured hair and green eyes. she was gorgeous, like all the other girls. i had noticed in tryouts that she seemed a bit shy, which was the same impression i was getting now. "yes! sorry, i don't think i got your name," i said. she smiled softly, "my name's denver. it's nice to meet you!" she told me and i gave her a friendly hug. "your name's beautiful, i've never met anyone named denver before!" i exclaimed.

after going through check-in and security processes, we were led downstairs. a woman named hailey showed us where we would put our skates on, where the large shovels were for the ice, and anything else we had to know. as warmups began and i felt (and heard) the buzzing energy of the crowd, i realized how dumb and small my fears were. my job was to shovel the ice, nobody was really counting on me. anyone else could do this job just as well as i could. the players however, were under all the pressure in the world. they had a huge fanbase counting on them. this was the year that they were supposed to prove themselves.

i tried my best to push my worries aside and plant a smile on my face. i was really working for mlse. i was about to step on the ice at the air canada centre during a leafs game.

the buzzer went, signaling a commercial break. i grabbed my shovel and took a deep breath as i saw the players all skate towards the bench; it wasn't an intermission so they were to stay on or in front of the bench as we cleared the ice. as maia took off in front of me, i knew it was my time and prayed i wouldn't fall flat on my face when i took that first step.
