Chapter 20: Birthday Surprises

I wake up from my phone going off. I look to see it's midnight, who the hell could be calling this late? "What?" I answer groggily.

"Happy birthday!" Jas and Rea scream loudly causing me to pull the phone away from my ear.

"Tell them to shut the fuck up" Teo groans sleepily.

"Guys!" I yell to get them to stop their horrible singing. "Thanks, now I have to go back to sleep. We do have class later."

"Bye hunny" they say before hanging up. I shake my head before getting comfortable again and slowly fall back to sleep.

Someone roughly shaking me forces me to wake up. I look at the clock to see it's noon. What the fuck? "Did my alarm go off?" I ask Teo before shooting out the bed.

"I turned it off."

I snap my head in his direction, "why would you do that?" I snap. "I'm so fucking late. You had no fucking right!" I rush into the bathroom pissed. Not only did I miss two classes but I'm going to be late for work. How dare he just make the decision to cut my alarm off. He hops into my shower and I resist the urge to kill him.

"You aren't going to school or work."

I turn to face him, "and why would that be?"

"It's your birthday, hurry the fuck up before we're late."

"Late for what?"

He gets out the shower not bothering to answer my question. What could we be late for? I make quick work of finishing my shower before drying off and walking to the closet.

"Dress warm."

Does he not know that it's freezing outside? Dress warm in the winter is just asking to be sick. I pull on jean shorts, a grey tank top, grey sweat suit, and a pair of Toms. As soon as I step out the closet Teo eyes me before shaking his head. He takes my hand and leads me out the penthouse and the building to an awaiting town car. What does this man have planned? The driver pulls off and I take the ride as time to reply to birthday texts and return phone calls.

"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" I ask eyeing him.

"No" he says simply and firmly.

Once the car stops we're at an airstrip where a private jet is sitting. Teo pulls me to the plane nodding to the staff. The inside is red and white seats with dark granite tables. Teo pulls us to a seat and buckles me in just as the pilot is about to take off. They waste no time. The stewardess rolls in a cart with a covered lid. She removes the lid revealing a red velvet cake with a 2 and a 0 candle on it.

"Happy birthday tesoro" Teo whispers just as she lights the candles.

I resist the urge to cry as I blow out the candles before turning to kiss Teo. She cuts the cake before handing us each a piece. I can't believe he even knows my favorite type of cake. Did he tell anyone where he's taking me? I never would've guessed that Teo really does have a soft spot somewhere deep down. The fact that I have no idea where we're going and for how long is driving me crazy. Hell how'd he got me time out of school is mind blowing.

"How'd you get me out of school?"

"Don't worry about it."

"Will I fall behind?"

"No."

"How do you know?"

"Stop asking fucking questions Danica."
