My breathing quickened when the aliens charged at me. Montez swung round to see me aim my flamethrower at the jellies. I pulled the trigger.
Fuel and oxygen combined, ignited by a rapid blue spark. Fire spewed from my weapon and lit my closest foe.
Montez raised his laser rifle and fired. Green bolts raced through space, zipping past my head at the aliens.
The laser fire passed through the gelatinous bodies with no apparent effect. More jellies came and I lit them all.
The heat expelled energy tempted the aliens but they seemed confused whether to attack their fiery kin or continue pursuit. I lit more of them but their indecision remained.
"Montez! Take this. I flung a pack at him from my shoulder and opened the flame full-bore.
