How to Save a life

Start from the beginning

"No, not like puppies. Chicks and ducks" Arizona says

"When did we start calling them that" Meredith asks

"You've been gone for a year" Alex reminds her

"Left to their own devices, they would drown" Arizona nods

"And take their patients down with them. God help us all" Callie says. After Richard finishes giving them a tour, all of us go meet them and introduce ourselves. After I finish meeting all of them I leave and go to an on call room to call Jackson. Today is Catherine and Richards wedding so Jackson was spending all day with Catherine as she prepared.

"Hey" Jackson answers

"Hey Avery. How is your day with your mother going" I ask

"Surprisingly not bad. How's your day been" he asks

"It's been okay. The new interns are here, which I can't believe you missed" I say

"Me either. How are the interns? Did you like any of them" he asks

"No. They're all dumb, clueless, stupid, irritating, bright, and bubbly. I hate bright and bubbly people" I say

"You are really mean, do you know that" Jackson laughs

"But you still love me" I smirk

"Yes, I do" he says. I let out a sigh of frustration as my pager goes off.

"I have to go, I'm being paged for a trauma. I'll try to call you after I get finished, if I can't I'll just see you at the wedding" I say

"Okay, bye. I love you" he says

"Bye, I love you too" I say before hanging up and leaving the on call room.

"You know how many incoming" I ask as Alex, Callie, and I walk down the hallway

"No, we don't even know what happened. But it is big" Callie

"Well I guess we're probably not making it out of here in time for the wedding" I sigh

"You have to make it out of here in time for it. It's your mother in laws wedding" Alex says

"Well I'm not exactly best friends with my mother in law" I sigh as we stop in the busy hallway to grab trauma gowns

"You did a lobectomy on a dirt road" Jo asks

"Well, we had to. The nearest medical center was 150 miles away" April says

"Does anyone know what exactly happened" I ask as I put on my trauma gown and gloves

"Not a clue" Owen says

"So, was it just a 24/7 adrenaline rush" Jo asks Owen and April

"What was a 24/7 adrenaline rush" Owen asks

"The desert. No. You get desensitized pretty fast" April says as we walk out on to the ambulance bay

"There's another group leaving in two weeks if you're interested" Owen sad to Jo

"You're not living in a tent" Alex frowns

"I grew up in a car" Jo says

"That had doors" Alex says

"We should both go" Jo says

"I'm definitely not living in a tent" Alex says

"You came close enough to living in one when you stayed in the trailer. Do you remember when you walked outside and there was a bear out there" I laugh
