Defense on Defense

I stared at the words written on the page of the book I was reading. Madeline was teaching me English and gave a me a book and a Japanese-English dictionary to translate the book. Now, while it sounds like a lot of work, I'd have no problem if I wasn't hanging upside down as dogs jumped up and down trying the bite me. I swung to the right as a dog jumped high enough to nearly bite my ear off, I flipped a page as tears dripped off my face. It wasn't the story that was heartbreaking, it was my life that was heartbreaking. With the way things were, I wouldn't be surprised  if my heart literally broke (metaphorically considering you can't physically break an heart).

"What do you think Boss, is it good so far?" Madeline asked, a blank look on her face as she stared up at me. I answered in a strained voice,

"It seems interesting so far, this would a lot easier if there wasn't blood rushing into my head. I think you need to let me down-"

"It hasn't even been an hour yet. You need to work on endurance, and since you need to get stronger faster we have to do this the hard way." I replied, my voice even more strained,

"I'm sure I don't need this sort of training just yet. We can do this another time, or at least work up to an hour."

"No, Kou-san said it was best to be firm with you since you're lazy and unmotivated." My eyebrow twitched in irritation, that stupid girl making unnecessary calls. "Hold out Boss, we're going to keep doing this all day or until you can do it for an hour or longer." I didn't reply as I realized I made a mistake receiving training from an assassin. I cried silently for myself as I continued with the task assigned to me.

Timeskip~

"Well this is unexpected, I never thought he'd be able to do it by today," I hear Kou comment, an impressed look on her face. I looked up at her, I was still upside down in the tree and I was perfectly fine being upside down. I had to be righted a couple times, but it's ten at night and I got really absorbed in the book handed to me. Madeline was kind enough to set up a light for me to see apparently the book she gave me was a personal favorite, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief". I was pretty into at this point, despite the language difficulties. "You look cozy up there! How ya hanging?"

"Pretty good, this book is awesome!"

"I know right! I'm obsessed! Just wait until you read all the other ones! I think it's time to get you down now! Your mom might be getting worried why you're out late without any warning!" she yelled, pulling out her phone. I thought she was going to call my mom, explaining why we're out late when the roped holding my feet slackened, I barely said, "Eh?" before plummeting downward (Naw Tsuna, gravity doesn't bind you, up we go!). The ground was quickly approaching, without a second thought, I  flipped in the air so my feet would hit first. My heels made contact and I rolled into a stand, lessening impact damage. Clapping appeared to my left, looks of satisfaction on both of my mentor's faces. "Good job! Thought you'd never survive it!" I threw a punch at her, she easily dodged it. Madeline spoke up,

"I have contacted your mother, she is now properly informed that you will not return home tonight, and possibly this week. To leave your mother company, I have arranged for her to go to the Vongola Hot Springs in Hokkaido." Kou and I blinked at her, tilting our heads in confusion.

"When did you do this?" we asked. She held up her phone, showing her calling history, it showed that she had time to tell my mother all about her trip in the time I was falling without Kou noticing.

"You, are amazing!" yelled the masochist, latching her into a hug. On reflex, Madeline grabbed her arm and threw her over her shoulder, twisting her arm around behind her back and pinning her. Kou turned her head to look at Madeline, a flushed look on her face. "T-t-thank you, if you don't mind, CAN YOU DO MORE?!?!?!?!?" Madeline raised an eyebrow questioningly, she turned her head towards me and gestured towards the idiot underneath her. I sighed and rubbed my face, telling them to both stop their attacks. Madeline stepped away from Kou, hiding behind my back, prepared to attack if necessary. Masochist stood up, disappointment written all over her. "Pity, I thought we were going to form a special bond right now. I guess that'll have to wait for another day." I narrowed my eyes at that, suspicion forming as I said,

"Are you flirting with her?" To answer my question, Kou raised her eyebrow as to say that was obvious. I felt Madeline clutch the back of my shirt in embarrassment, I'm guessing this a first for her, or at least the first time she was aware someone was flirting with her. The embarrassed girl cleared her throat,

"Let's continue with your training Boss," Kou huffed when Madeline ignored her attempts. "I'll explain some of the defensive moves that you will learn. The first is Flame Armor, I was told a brief recount of your history and I was informed that you created a barrier of flames once, if you could recreate that except it's covering just your body as if it was armor, you could throw up a barrier for a shield against bullets and attacks, so not only can you create armor but can also be a weapon.  If you could create a barrier it can be used to trap your enemies. Another defensive skill is learning to steal weapons, that majority of your enemies will be using weapons infused with flames, since using bare hands is extremely rare, if you could somehow pull both the flame and the weapon towards yourself, leaving your enemy weaponless, you'd get the advantage. Of course, we need to train you to be able to use those weapons, but that will have to wait. We're going also work on increasing the speed of your petrifying with your Flames, that way the weapons can't be picked up by the enemy and won't be a problem. They isn't a whole bunch I could conjure for defense, mainly because you're an attacker and Flames, particularly yours, isn't used for defense a whole bunch. I will be teaching basic defense and advance defense and incorporating Flames into them."

I nodded along as she explained. It sounded a whole lot easier than what Kou had put me through. That girl obviously thought I had unlimited energy. Madeline seems to understand limit so I'm fairly certain that I won't end up nearly passing out into a coma like Kou nearly drove me to. Madeline started to walk me through on how she envisioned the Armor to go, and I was feeling like our chances of winning increased even more. Summer was nearly over, school would resume again, and I had a war to fight.

Sorry for the delay! This was meant to be released yesterday, but my mom ended up coming home with a kitten! Sweet little Kuro-Chantal was walking all over my keyboard and really warmed up to the family. My stepdad was pretty mad though since he wasn't consulted.

Until the next chapter,

Peace out Anti-socialist!
