Caught In The Middle

Chapter 22

Maya POV

Getting through the work day was starting to become a struggle since this baby was making me so tired. Today I am going with Lucas and Maggie to my appointment at 4PM to get the results of the blood test that I went in for so that we could find out the sex of our baby early.  I was now 14 weeks along and my bump was the cutest. I have definitely popped out more within the lats two weeks.  By the end of this work day I was so tired and struggling to stay awake. This baby was really making Mommy tired. I was in the middle of doing some last minute things when I heard the bells jingle on the door as Lucas and Maggie walked in. This was the first time that Maggie would be seeing my art store so I told Lucas to bring her here early. I wanted her to pick out some things to have since her Mom is officially leaving next week and she'd have to say goodbye to her. 

"Wow this is awesome, Maya." Maggie said as her eyes lit up at all artistic and crafty things that were in my store. 

"Isn't it though?" I said to her.  "How would you like it if I said that you could pick out some things in here to take home with you? Free of charge." 

Maggie turned to Lucas "Please Daddy!" she said nearly jumping up and down in excitement. 

"Yes, you can do that since it is okay with Maya. Just don't go overboard okay?" he said to her. 

"I won't! Thank you Daddy." she said excitedly then she began to walk around the store to pick out what she wanted. 

Lucas walked up to me and placed his lips on mine kissing me softly before pulling away. "How are you doing? You look exhausted?" he asked me as we walked towards the register so that I could lock it up.

I yawned and then smiled at him "I'm good but this baby is making Mommy so tired." 

Lucas stood beside me and crossed his arms as he leaned against the counter "You know Maya why don't you hire people to work in this store for you so that you can just stay at home and rest?" 

I looked up at him after I locked the register and sighed. "I just love my job so much and I don't know if I'm comfortable with letting people work in here all the time without me here." 

"Do you have security camera's installed?" he asked me. 

"Yes I do. It was one of the first things I had installed." I replied. 

"Well there you go then. I know you are worried about your store and everything but I'm worried about you. For the last two weeks you have come home exhausted. I worry about you not only driving home but also driving to work in the morning. I can pop into the store on my lunch breaks and see how things are going. Ask Hallie and Maddie if they would want some more hours to work. I am sure they would be all for it." Lucas replied. "Just until after the baby is born at least."

"Alright fine I will talk to them." I said as I hugged Lucas. "Thanks for taking care of me." 

"I love you." he said to me. 

"I love you too." I said then I stood on my top toes to kiss him on his lips and of course he leaned down so I could reach him better. 

"Okay I picked some things out." Maggie said as she came walking towards us holding a bunch of items in her arms. 

"What did you pick out kid." I asked her as she placed the items on the counter.
