Of. Flipping. Course.
I stare at the sign in front of me, willing it to go away so I could continue on with my daily scheduling, but with no luck. The words 'closed for construction' were still taunting me.
Construction.
Yeah right, Mrs.Unie probably quit or something, no way this school would spend money on something like the library. They would be more likely to buy a new football field or goals for the soccer team than to put any effort into fixing the rundown book cemetery.
I sigh, giving up my attempt to make the big bold words magically vanish, and face the reality that I'll actually have to go to the cafeteria. I push my hand through my brown hair with a sigh and start my walk down the halls.
As I approached the destination the quiet and almost peaceful atmosphere was shattered by the rowdy sounds of children trying to yell over one another in an effort to have a decent conversation with their friends.
I walk through the doors and approach a table; at first, no one paid any attention to me, people rarely ever did. That is until they noticed I was approaching, what these kids call, the popular table.
In the back corner of the lunchroom sat three males and two females, the most popular people in the entire school, and I, the simple quiet girl that wears glasses and a hoodie every day, was approaching them.
The three males that were facing the front of the cafeteria were looking at me curiously, almost daring me to step into their domain.
And so I do.
The two girls had their backs towards me, unaware of my presences. I tap the shoulder of the blonde one.
At this point, the cafeteria was almost silent, if it wasn't for the gossiping whispers being spread because apparently, they have nothing better to do.
The young girl spins around in her seat to face me.
Lexi Green; the bitchiest, meanest, hoe this school has ever seen.
As well as my best friend.
"Ho. ly. Shit." Lexi says slowly in dramatic surprise. "You've actually came out to socialize!"
"Ha. Ha. You're so funny." I mock. "But no, the library is closed can I sit with you Lele."
"Yeah, of course! It just so happens this spot is no longer occupied." She says pulling me into the seat beside her.
"Thanks." I say, leaning over to get my calendar book from my bag and setting it on the table. I need to figure out how to pay for Jackson's soccer. If I work later, I could get more money, but who's going to watch Stella and Jackson all night?
"What's she doing?" I hear from the other side of Lexi.
"Nothing important." I answer and continue scribbling in my calendar.
"Sophia, when was the last time you ate?" Lexi asked me.
"Doesn't matter Le, I'm fine." I answer sternly not looking up from the small booklet in front of me.
"Soph, you have to eat, I know you're busy but you still have to have something in your stomach." Lexi whispers. I look up from my notebook and see everyone at the table looking at me. I turn to Lexi and say slowly.
"I have eaten, I am--" My sentence was stopped short by a already bitten into apple being rudely shoved into my mouth.
"Eat it or I'm making you sit on the floor." My stubborn best friend crosses her arms.
