Time Out | McKenzie Richardson

I lay on the ground

And feel the earth spin beneath me

A weightlessness overcomes me

Gripping my fingers into the dark dirt

Just to make sure I'm still here

As I child I used to spin around and around

Fall down

And feel the lurch of our planet through space

And time.

.

Time is an interesting thing

In the blink of an eye

An eternity passes

But for these few minutes

Time crawls on all fours

Creeping, creeping

Like a lizard through the leaves

Here

In the middle of this meadow

Time stands still.

.

Sometimes we need to get out of the city

Away from the people

Away from the stress

And return to our roots in the rich soil of our world.

.

I lay for a moment longer

The breeze tickling the tip of my nose

Then slowly I stand up

Cast one more loving glance

At the perfect purple petals, the green blades of grass

Before heading back home

And letting the earth spin on once again.
