Dedication:
To those that have difficulty expressing themselves; to those that don't know how to ask for help; to those that are struggling; to those that need someone to understand; to those that push loved ones away; to those I love too much...
This is for you.
Preface:
To say this wasn't the scariest thing I have ever done would be a lie. I have written for years but not consecutively and I definitely did not plan on publishing. Writing, for me, is a way to self-heal and escape from all the frustrations, disappointments, and pain that life brings. It has always been a method of finding my way back to myself and to soothe what's been hurting, especially when I have felt alone. Music has also played an integral part of my self-healing. Thus, I have combined both of my methods together in this short poetry book. It is my hope that my writing will help someone else with similar feelings, help those who are unable to help themselves, guide those who are lost, and help those that are good at pretending everything is fine (like I did).
These poems were written over the span of about 2 years and may not flow cohesively. But, artistically, it is a portrayal of losing myself over things that were out of my control. Things that I had to accept regardless of my tiring efforts and putting myself last on my priority list.
These poems have given me strength in moments that I have been weak, or at least what I felt was weakness. These poems were written during or after some breakdowns that I could no longer hold together. These poems were written in many different locations across NYC, but each location was similar in that I shed tears alone. These poems are all that I am.
I hope you enjoy reading this.
