The thoughts come into my head, one after another
Like runners in a marathon
You cannot stop them, you cannot slow them down
They have only one goal and that is winning
The only force strong enough to stop these runners in my head
Is the burning embrace of a bottle to the lips
The thoughts in my head are dark and sometimes scary
They are like curtains keeping out the sun
They take a little bit of darkness and amplify it
They create shadows and figures of things not really there
The thoughts in my head are rough and unsettling
Like a long dirt road at midnight
No sign of life, no light except the light of your headlights to guide you
The thoughts in my head are like an unfaithful lover
Giving you empty promises and regret
They hold you in their warm embrace and try to make you forget
They try to win you with flowers and dreams of a better life
Until they tear you back down and ruin you
The thoughts in my head are like an ocean
Calm
for a few moments before the storm
And then
Waves crash, ships wreck
The once beautiful blue sky turns into a black night with no stars to calm you
The thoughts in my head are dangerous
Like a shotgun to the temple
Or like a flame to a moth
They pull you in and burn you down
The thoughts in my head are never quiet
They push and pull and kick and scream
And you can only sit there
And let them go by
